Mathematical Neuroscience and The Spirit

(February 28, 2013 at 6:06 pm)oanghelidi Wrote: If you implement the human brain simulation no matter to what level of mathematical detail you will never get it to be conscious. I have done that and the math is there, but consciousness isn't. There are many leading neuroscientists that are saying that you implement the required neuronal data and the system will be alive. That is false.

That means consciousness is external to the human brain and the body. And that means there is a spirit. And if you believe in the existence of a spirit that leads to one possible conclusion that there is a God.

What a strange notion. You look at the complexity of the brain and all you see are the number of neuronal connections. Recreate that and you actually think you have a chance of recreating a functional brain? Minus all the hormones and organic muck, there is no telling what you have tossed out but the results of your experiment point more to this lack than to the independent existence of 'spirit'.

But, but.. The article, the math we couldn't possibly understand. Don't leave us hanging in suspense!

When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

For what it's worth, based on my own research.

There does appear to be an Ovidiu Anghelidi, who was involved in large-scale simulations of the brain using a model based on Hodgin-Huxley equations. It was implemented on a distributed processing platform using BOINC, and it did hit the 700 billion neuron mark. (I have a citation that puts Anghelidi as the project leader a year earlier when it hit the 100 billion neuron mark.) It also appears that the quote in blue was in the original article, including the mention of Ovidiu Anghelidi.

Make of it what you will.

Do you have the link to the article, Apo?

God bless you all!

Look at you, you're a regular Houin Kyouma. Tongue

Bye, mad scientist! Thanks for being so good goddamn ridiculous! Big Grin

Why am I mad? Cause you can't understand what I am saying and you don't have even a single bright idea in an hour?

Well, then maybe you should do some work to compensate for that.

I don't blame you for not getting the reference, I just love Steins;Gate so much. Tongue

It's not an insult, I just sort of pictured you stumbling into amazing scientific discoveries almost on accident. Whether or not you're being entirely truthful in this thread, the character of it sort of brings to mind Rintaro Okabe, the protagonist of Steins;Gate. Big Grin

This would be the link he was trying to post over and over again. Any idea why it was removed?
