We've ruined the sea
#21
RE: We've ruined the sea
After studying the cause and effect of the universe, I don't think it is logical to have kids at all if the objective aim is less suffering. There are 7 billion people out there already that need more compassion and education. Adoption makes a lot more sense in terms of sustainability.

But I appreciate I must be in a <1% of people who actually believe that and don't have a cognitive dissonance about it. For example, I genuinely don't understand why abortions need to happen. If you don't want a kid, don't put a penis in a vagina. It's pretty fucking obvious what the consequences are by now and people still do it.

It's the same with this plastic thing. It's just too obvious that people still wouldn't significantly care even if I showed them all and provided a solution. People are actually too emotionally attached to plastic living. It's truly incredible how unnecessary it is.

I agree with everything you've said in this thread but penis in vagina is awesome - and that's why it happens. I don't want kids but I still want sex. Not a complex concept.

It is when a kid happens that you didn't want.

You don't get to pick and choose the laws and consequences of nature. You have to accept that when you put a penis in a vagina there is a chance of spreading disease and pregnancy whether you want it that way or not.

You have to accept that when you use plastic, there is a chance of polluting the environment beyond repair and ending another food supply.

If the consequences and mistakes of this are fine, then why care about the consequences and mistakes of people believing in god? God can be awesome - and that's why it happens. People don't want this world but still want faith. Not a complex concept.

I do accept this.

I do accept this.

Because their 'belief' affects me.

My 'act' of sex or act of using plastic affects others, too, but it's an act, and so it should have an effect. There's no reason personal beliefs should be affecting anyone, other than the individual who believes.

Their belief doesn't affect you unless they act upon it. You have a personal belief when it comes to sex and plastic.

It's not our trash. Take it up with Russia, Japan, China, the USA and Mexico since that's where the trash comes from.

It's what BP did with the oil that's of grave environmental concern. They didn't clean up their fucking mess - in fact they made it worse. Instead of burning the oil, what they did was they sprayed it with a toxic substance called corexit. Spraying it with that shit made the oil more than 50 times more toxic! The corexit and the oil is still in the ocean. All it did was drop it to the bottom of the ocean where it causes far more harm than the plastic whirlpool in the North Pacific does (the plastic is nowhere near as toxic).

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke

No, I don't?

Religion; a belief in something with no supporting evidence, is not equatable to the desire for sex or plastic use. Maybe plastic use, if there are solutions, as it's not logical to continue using material that harms the world we live in - just like it's not logical to believe something exists when there is nothing suggesting it does.

Even when two people don't want to create a child, they decide the small chance is worth taking to have sex. I forgot how you even managed to equate sex with religion in the first place, so let me correct the reasoning you used when you introduced the comparison.

The desire for sex - sex, which is an act. The desire to believe in 'god' - something that has over a billion definitions and each instance of that something having the same amount of supporting evidence: 0. They're not the same thing. Both of them having possible undesired consequences isn't grounds to equate them to eachother.

Lol I realise sex and god are different.

But you hold beliefs about sex. For example, you may hold the belief that it is okay to rape kids because of the natural human evolutionary desire for sex. Similarly, you might believe it is okay to kill someone because of a natural human evolutionary desire for god.

The neurons exist for both. Your perception just depends on the genetics and environment you have been exposed to.

Yeah scientists call it the point of no return. Heard something about changing the water vapor in the air or something. Basically suppose to be a leading idea to reversing global warming as crazy as that sound not sure if it is true though.
