They're necessary.

(BTW, I think you're going to have to clarify exactly what you mean by "pacifists." I'm against violence, but if it is required for self-defense, I won't lay down like some Buddhist monk.)
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Not sure why pacifists would be against prisons; they are quite a pacifist solution to crime. Instead of hurting people or executing them as punishment, we lock them up away from society for an amount of time.

I don't see how pacifism and prisons have anything to do with each other.

Yea but then we need to pay taxes so that people sit in that house and do nothing. Instead we should make working labour out of them. So that they would work to pay their staying there and to slowly pay of their crime.

I have to answer this one hypothetically, seeing the matter from the perspective of my ideal world. (And as FNM said, I do not consider myself a pacifist, but I have a strong aversion to violence IRL.)
Jailing criminals is good. I'm not for death penalty and most definitely not for letting offenders walk free, so jail seems like a sensible choice. I don't mind paying high taxes, so it doesn't bother me that an amount of my earnings goes towards board for the inmates. I would wish though that the inmates would get decent consultation an rehabilitation so that once they have sat their time, they can join the rest of society. I also like the idea that the inmates have the possibility to do stuff they like (e.g. wood crafting or reading) and that they have to somehow serve the community they've harmed (e.g. wash all laundry that comes from the hospitals).
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
