I disagree.

Although third parties may often be opertunists who change coalition alliances with the public flow.
Third parties play an importent role in keeping debates in a parlament going and forcing other parties to compromise.

You're not understanding the nature of American politics. If we had a viable third party, the country would melt down.

Hence Lewis Black at one point shrieking in parody "Three parties?! We can't handle that - my head gets dizzy!!!"

Two party systems are very toxic to progressive changes.

Mainly because it creates a "if you're not with us, you're with them" situation.

However, libertarians in the US are way too far right wing to ever capture me.

They participate in CPAC. They make a grand showing in conservative districts.

They never include left leaning folks such as myself, even if we'd agree upon quite a few things.

Their own myopia is the reason why the Libertarian party is never going anywhere -- Republican-lite doesn't appeal to me at all.
