The prize of Christianity
#11
RE: The prize of Christianity
I am a Christian so that I may know, unceasingly into eternity, the abundant life that comes from loving the Lord and my brothers and sisters here on earth.

You could have asked the question in one sentence. Why all the commentary?

You sound like you're fraught with humility and fear. It sounds like you hate your job and live a life in blind ignorant servatude that sounds absolutely awful. If I were you, I think i'd rather put my dreams in a hope basket and pray for a better place too. Sounds like the guy upstairs owes you at least that. I mean it sounds like you've been taking his shit for a long time and you're cool with it so long as he pays up. I don't know how many people deserve to suffer and be tortured after death, but the least he can do is let the people like yourself into heaven that he stripped from of their happiness, dignity and pride during their life. Good on you Mr! If you see no shame in being a prideless begger living in a shroud of ignorance and humility, then i'm sure those are qualities your all powerful God intended on you to have and make you special! You sound like a good Christian.

P.S.
You're right, I did offer my opinion, I stand corrected!

You should have held this rant till a little more time had passed. It may have had more impact then, or maybe not... Undecided

Your argument was weak to begin with.

Why thank you.

No, fear is the beginning of wisdom, but you grow out of fear and into love.

What, because I said some days I don’t want to go into work? LMAO!

It’s just a matter of hours in the day. You’re young yet, but you’re gonna blink, and you’ll be me.

Oh please, speak about what you know. I’m a husband, father, deacon, professional. In short, I have a lot more happiness, dignity and pride with god then I did on my own, when like half the people on this board all I cared about was getting some pot or booze.

There you go with humility again. Lots of people see that as a positive.

On a lot more than that. You think you’re hot shit. You’re not. But welcome to the boards!

Christianity invented an imaginary illness. Claims you are born with it. Then claims to have an imaginary cure.

Good thing they're not charging for their snake oil...oh wait...

Quote:And? I’d rather be a servant than be dead, and in your analogy, I would agree with the man that I deserved to be shot.

You would DESERVE to be shot?! Seriously?! Why? Because might makes right?

Yeah, your beliefs have definitely poisoned your ability to actually, you know, think.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Oh please.

Of course the concept of sin didn't originate with Christianity.

But the thread is about Christianity, so my post was aimed at the Christian definition of sin.

And why point out that the concept of sin didn't originate with Christianity? You don't care about how other religions define what a sin is in their belief systems.

Don't you think that in context, the word fear means something more akin to respect. For example, you walk past a junk yard and a vicious dog crashes against the chain link fence growling and barking at you. At first it will startle you, but then you realize he's defending his territory and you have to respect him for that. Or the way you must respect a loaded gun, even if you know how to handle.

(wow, I just compared God to a junkyard dog and a loaded gun...)

Yeah, pretty weird.

A junkyard dog and a gun can be proven to exist. The other is most likely imaginary.

It has not gone unnoticed that you failed to address the actual points.

Instead you point out a pretty minor 'mistake'.
