Unaccepting Parents

RE: Unaccepting Parents
Instead of attacking their beliefs and trying to convince them that they are incorrect, I would make the case that you have the right to your own beliefs and religion is not something to be forced down people's throats. You could even say something along the lines like if they really had faith god was real, they would have faith that you would be shown the truth.

If that doesn't work, tell them you're born again and fake it until you can move out on your own.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

^FNM I can't believe you are advocating lying to her parents... since when does lying do any good? It only serves to cause problems.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke

Aractus. I don't think you understand the precarious position some kids find themselves in due to not having faith in this country. We had one member here thrown out of his house, thankfully landing with his uncle, because he refused to lie and say he was faithful.

Lying does good when the truth causes more harm. Perhaps this is a cultural thing, and you do not understand the ramifications of telling fundamentalist parents that you are an atheist in the U.S. Perhaps you just can't get past the fact that lying isn't a black and white moral issue. If it comes down to the possibility of a child being thrown out of the house or lying and pretending to be a Christian, I will advocate lying every time.

If religious people weren't so goddamn hypersensitive and overzealous about pushing their beliefs on their children, this wouldn't even be an issue.

Since time immemorial? Whenever things are causing social friction - it's good to have some lube handy.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Let them preach to you. Tell them, I know you this out of concern for me, I know you are scared that I will go to hell, I know it hurts you, but billions of people on earth are not of this faith as well, and I am just one more person. If being good and open to the light is what is required for God to show me the way per your bible, I can promise you, I will try my best to be a good person and open myself to the light.

Kind words and manners go a long way.

If they're truly unreasonable, you'll just have to accept it and create barriers. Don't argue with them. Just nod your head at everything they say and keep reminding yourself they're too far gone to be helped. Focus on becoming independent.

If your story really is the way you foretell it/portray it up here let's see your examples of what you think the Bible contradicts itself in. And also if you're convinced that evolution is true I would strongly recommend you visit the site: [REDACTED] as it exposes the errancies of the theory of evolution and it's blatant fallibility. There is indeed a God and his name is Jesus Christ. The sooner you abandon any bitterness you have and humble yourself and ask for God to reveal himself to you, the sooner foolishness will leave you.

The site lists The second law of thermodynamics as one of its arguments. They can all be dismissed as they've been debunked many-a time before.
Even if they were all true: demonstrate that the God is yours - Jesus.

Oh you sound like a fun one!

Why not make an intro thread and tell us all about it dear?

And who is this "Jesus Christ"? I've not heard of him before. Sounds interesting!
