I've got the original Shogun here somewhere, and I purchased Shogun 2 but never downloaded it. My computer currently isn't really up for it; I should have a new box up sometime in the next 8 weeks, but I'm not sure it will be capable either. (I didn't plan on gaming, so the card I've got for it is a low-end one, an ATI Radeon HD 5450.) Anyway, I've got a lot of reading to do in the next six weeks (I've committed to reading Middlemarch, among other things, by mid-May). I generally prefer turn-based strategy, but I think I can probably hack TW if it's a mix, but as noted, I won't be ready for about 6 weeks. If I am able sooner, I'll let you know. I am interested, though. (I'm noticing that the Total War series doesn't cover the modern period. I like contemporary strategy as well. WWI and WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc. I can do Civil War, but it's not a favorite.) (I suck at strategy games, so I'm a good person to use for a filler that you can scam resources off of.) (ETA: My new HSF should be here tomorrow or Friday. I've got 60-100 pages to read between now and Monday, but I can probably throw the new box together over the weekend and put a temporary install on it. Provided the video is adequate.) (ETA: ETA: I've got two sets of 2 TB to transfer/migrate, which may be the limiting factor. Shouldn't take more than 2-3 days, but I don't have any spare large disks until that is done.) I'm terrible really. In the games themselves I tend to rely on just having more and better units than the opposing army. I've not played much multiplayer other than with friends a long time ago.
Oh mines all done and installed too.
My bf is luring me into playing CoH2 and Left4Dead, so it might be that I fall for those games and will play them on Steam soon
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
I found my original copy of Shogun (I bought it twice), but I can't find the expanded version with the expansion packs and shit.
Well, as it turns out, my current laptop is a slow ass slug piece of shit when it comes to games. I currently have enought cash to buy a new pc, yet will wait a month or 2 and will certainly not spend more than 800 euros.
currently thinking of taking this one: Alpha 8 Gamer-PC Intel® Core™ i5-3450 (4x 3.1 GHz) NVIDIA® GeForce® GT640 with 2048 MB 8192 MB but once I have it, I will certainly come back to it (at which point I will probably also have more games) Hrmph. There's a decent MSI Radeon 7770 card on sale for $78 after $25 rebate. It's a good fit, it is powerful enough to last me a few years, and the price is right. I'd have preferred a low-profile solution, but I don't know that there are any in the 7770. The Sapphire Radeon 7750 comes in low profile, but is 1/3 slower and basically as much money. There was an HIS version of the 7770 going for $90, which I probably should have pulled the trigger on, because now the price has gone back up. I guess I can't decide whether the ability to game again is worth $75-100 or not. I was never much of a gamer, but I'd really like to play Shogun 1 & 2. Well, one of the graphics cards I've been watching dropped in price this morning and I still can't decide. I could get a Powercolor Radeon HD 7750 with GDDR5 for $80 after rebate. I think I'd rather put the money into buying a Zojirushi electric hot pot instead. I picked up Total War Medieval something for $6, as well as Torchlight. Maybe if I can tear myself away from reading this weekend, I'll put the new i3 system together and do some speed testing. I think if I concentrate on turn-based strategy, which is my favorite genre, I can get by with my Radeon HD 5450. |
