I can only hope we aren't going to be judged long term by Bush/Cheney.
How can we not?
BTW, Annette Funicello also died today.
She taught my entire generation about tits.
Probably not as important as Thatcher but at least she never got anyone killed for nothing.

I am a liberal, but I have to admit she was needed in 1980s Great Britain....that was liberalism at one of its worst and one of the reasons I oppose strong unions.

You know, the sad thing is that I feel far worse about her death than Thatcher's, but mainly because I'm planning on working on a Beach Party-themed reworking of Twelfth Night. Of course, everyone knows that Buster Keaton and Harvey Lembeck were the best part of those films.

Strong unions are the only thing that can stand up to corporate criminals.
No wonder the world is in the shape it is in.

Strong unions are the same type of criminals...teachers unions buy politicians instead of caring about improving education and they keep unemployed teachers, who are better qualified than teachers who don't do their job, from finding teaching positions.

Education is in the shitter in the US because republican politicians are slashing budgets left and right.
You are merely a pawn of the upper classes....typical of the religious.
But you are no liberal.

Where I live, the Democrats are the ones who destroyed education by stealing from our schools. They corrected this later on by retroactively raising taxes, but still continue to steal. And the Teachers Unions lobbied to keep the status quo so they could maintain power while education was ruined...fitting that the state with the strongest Teachers Union has one of the worst education rates.
What would a Zonie know about being a liberal? Not a thing.

We don't need teachers anymore. To save money UK schools employ unqualified mums as classroom assistants that can then take classes. That's what the squeeze on public services got us.

I agree, in that I believe that they get a level of access to politicians that would otherwise be exclusive to business leaders. If government's relationship with business was more... adversarial, big labor might not be necessary at all.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
