This theory is absolute crap. Watching the 1993 American Comedy Awards for which Hicks was nominated for best stand-up (Richard Jeni won) one sees Carlin reading out the nominees, Carlin looks barely familiar with Hick's work at that time let alone seeing him as someone who according to this theory he'd already been influenced by.
Hicks was good, but unfortunately most of his fame has come after his death from revisionist historians who most of the time was unaware of who was when he was alive.
If you really like the work and legacy of Bill Hicks and believe me I do, let him rest in fucking peace and stop overstating his legacy. Yes he did have an impact and influence, but no he is not responsible for every single comedian with cutting edge material.
