Wait, so because they do not think like you, it pisses you off? Loads of people think the world sucks. I really do not see that as a theist trait. Sorry, sweetheart. The point of this exercise is lost on me because I do not see the same connection that you see between hating the world and being a theist. In fact, I see a lot of theists in awe of the world because they think God made it.

Why Certain Aspects of Theism Piss Me Off

And yes, I'm perfectly in my rights to not like their opinion one goddamn bit.
Yes, but there are so many exceptions as for the connection to be tenuous, at best.
I never said you did not have a right to do anything. (April 26, 2013 at 12:57 pm)Shell B Wrote: Yes, but there are so many exceptions as for the connection to be tenuous, at best. Baptist = theist. I've heard it from Catholic and orthodox Judaism as well. Certain aspects =/= all. I didn't say all theists. I said certain aspects of theism, where I had seen far more of it than I had from atheist sources, mostly because it's by far and wide the realm of theism to concern themselves with the hereafter. I was pretty careful to make that distinction. I also mentioned some theists thinking the world was great because "God made it." I've run into that too. I place a lot of value on the Earth, so yes portions of their belief piss me off - much like I'm sure a belief where, oh, say, women can be stoned for having an affair might piss you off. I'm sure you understand I don't force them to do anything but live the way they feel like living. That doesn't mean I won't mock or belittle the belief, finding it repugnant.
But, what I'm having a problem with is seeing how this is an aspect of theism. I don't think it is. I think some theists, like some atheists, find life and the planet unbearable. For it to be an aspect of theism, it would have to be part of being a theist and it isn't.
It would seem that it is an aspect of the kind of theist they are. I didn't say all theists.
I know you didn't say all theists. You said theism. That would mean it is part of being a theist. I just don't think it is part of being any kind of theist. I think it is just an individual trait.
Certain Aspects of Certain Theistic Sects then.
Meh... if it's in your experience, then it's real enough to you. Missluckie seems to have been in such a situation too. I have no problem with her opinion of theism being pretty jaded. That kind of degradation of this beautiful world... well... the positive view should be more celebrated IMHO.
The South will do that to you, one way or another.
