I'm inviting everyone to give insight into how you think we could make this world a better place and improve society for all.

I would like serious responses. To my fellow atheists, abolishing all religion isn't a good way to improve society, sorry but that would very well cause a huge division, which not productive of a better society for all. To the religious, keep god out of this please, for once let's step away from god and see what we can do to improve our society. Getting everyone to conform to your specific religion is not a way to improve society. Sorry, but that is totalitarianism, if I remember my forms of society correctly.

De-industrialise the world. Law would have it so licenses and vehicles would be a lot more difficult to get, as well as vehicles only seeing use on needed out-of-town trips. There's no reason every citizen needs to own their own vehicle and there's no reason vehicles should be used (abused) to travel within the same town.

Actually, I agree with Lilly. If people masturbated more and had more consensual sex, I think the world would be a happier place.

I think we're somewhat already towards a better (global) society.

The Internet and the free distribution of knowledge has connected the world both culturally and ideologically, i.e. we have 2 cultures & 2 ideologies now: the online and IRL. If we connect the two, I bet that we would be much better off, and a lot more culturally and ideologically richer.

Continue educating our children and not just rote learning, but also in the ways of thought and skepticism, of everyone reaching their own conclusions on available data and theories in their education. Sure we might get different views, but I am of the firm belief that if we expose students to even bad theories and bad views, with critical thinking and own judgment, students will choose the better ones over the bad ones. This hinges on that the students learn to think for themselves first.

Global warming is threat we all face and something we have to do treat now. Stop burning coal in power plants, and replace them with nuclear fission for the time being, until we've perfected commercial fusion plants.

More transparent governments, only let sensitive information be withheld; rest up for scrutiny and public debate. Cut military spending/ or re-allocate military spending more succinctly; we don't need massive armies anymore. I think if western countries were to lighten up on military spending, nations like China would probably follow. We did this with nukes, we can do it with armies.

More science funding. Make it more attractive. This will sorta follow as more automation happens, such that more higher education will be necessary.

I don't know more at the moment, other than a personal thing: make an economic experiment with energy certificates ala Technocracy in an area and see how it goes.

Can you please explain how stepping back in progress would make a positive effect? I'm not trying to be asinine I just really don't understand the reasoning behind this. Maybe I'd understand better if I knew what area you live in, because vehicles are crucial where I live and so is productivity. When you live in the south and a person's job is more than likely about 20-50 miles away from the person's home it would be very hard to get to work, but I don't fully understand your concept at the moment. Maybe if you elaborate I can see the positive outcome.

Sal, very good concept I think, but I do have one suggestion. Instead of funding nuclear fission why don't we fund more free-energy alternatives. There have been several prototypes of self-sustaining electromagnetic motors capable of producing 40x the energy it consumes. If we mass-produced devices like this it would be a huge benefit to all society because it seems that the places that suffer the most are mostly due to lack of energy and water. I think self-sustaining free-energy is a much better alternative than nuclear energy which has a possible horrific potential, whereas clean free energy has no negative effects.
