So, as the title says I am obviously another "refugee" from AF, where I go by Shiranu. However I like what I have seen here and appreciate yall taking us in so I figured I would stick around.
About me:
A/S/L: 22, Male, New Mexico (originally from New York, then Texas, then Hawai'i for a year, now here).
Religious views: Intellectually atheist. I personally like certain theistic beliefs (pantheism, reverence for nature in religions such as Shintoism and Zoroastrianism, the sense of community, etc.) but cannot bring myself to believe that these beliefs are true.
As such I tend to be a bit more lenient towards aspects of religion, but as a whole I find organized religion to be more harmful than beneficial and have no problems calling its flaws out. I just don't care for the, "throw the baby out of with the bathwater, all religion is evil" style of atheism.
Political views: I consider myself a socialist progressive who thinks there needs to be a huge overhaul in governmental financing, military funding (stop paying 300 times what a product is worth, stop fighting unbeneficial wars, stop the CIA from overthrowing governments and funding terrorists who later bite us in the ass.), increase in environmental awareness and conservation and finally increasing our emphasis on all forms of educations.
personal:
-I am Italian/French/German-Middle Eastern on my dad's side, and Italian-Jewish/Spanish-Jewish/Irish/Possibly Middle Eastern on my mom's side.
-Huge soccer fan (Chelsea FC, Dortmund FC, Montreal L'Impact)
-Love all sorts of movies (minus horror... too corny)
-Love Middle Eastern culture and Hawai'ian culture. Particularly Iranian, Turkish and Israeli/Hebrew cultures interest me, because there have been some really beautiful cultures come out of these (especially the Persian culture) that is completely ignored in the Western world.
-Additionally I love Latin American, Afrikan and Far East history to a lesser extent, again because we know almost nothing about it in the West. However my primary interests are the one's above.
-I go to New Mexico State University, where I am looking at going into an Anthropology/History major/minor. Either want to get into archaeology or professorship in Middle Eastern studies, or if I could get into UH, Hawai'ian studies.
And finally I tend to be far too wordy in my posts, rarely get offended unless you just completely contradict my morals, love to argue (but not hold grudges), and... yeah. Getting too wordy, so that's all for now .
