Welcome aboard..also a huge fan of X-Files....and amusingly enough the bermuda triangle (I grew up in florida). Flight 19 ftw.

Believe it or not, I know someone that became an atheist at an early age from watching Scooby Doo.
They were always investigating supernatural events, and they ALWAYS turned out to have mundane explanation. The rational characters always turned out to be correct.
I was already an atheist when the X-Files were on. I was a huge fan.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

There seems to be a lot of that in American television and movies. It's the idea that not believing in something at least for the sake of believing somehow makes you a cold, hopeless person.
