Yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre is still illegal, even in the U.S.

"In short, Meyer has shown that his first disastrous book was not a fluke: he is capable of going into any field in which he has no training or research experience and botching it just as badly as he did molecular biology. As I've written before, if you are a complete amateur and don't understand a subject, don't demonstrate the Dunning-Kruger effect by writing a book about it and proving your ignorance to everyone else! Actually, that decision was overturned in the late 60's.
However, even in the original decision Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote "falsely shouting fire in a crowded theater."
I can see where people would be overly sensitive to a comment like that in the wake of the attack in London.

Would she still have had to serve the sentence if she had tweeted that "Allah said people wearing Help for Heroes T-shirts deserve to be beheaded?"

I'm all for the Police taking action against people whose tweets are actually threatening or harassing someone, I.e. If he'd tweeted that to Lee Rigby's wife or mother, but this was on his own twitter and he wasn't implying he was going to go out and behead anyone. He did nothing wrong. Unlike the hundreds of actual threatening replies he got, most of which are a fuckload more offensive. I guess they're allowed to though, because they're not brown with a muslim-sounding name so the Police don't care.
Funnily enough, I reported some threatening comments on Facebook right after the murder. A couple of which were calling for people to go out and bomb or burn down Mosques in London or set fire to random Muslims in the street, but the Police told me that wasn't "threatening" and took it no further. Then this happened. Now I feel like going back to the Police to be like "I FUCKING TOLD YOU!" If someone had been killed I'd be going to the press with that shit. They're too busy looking for Muslims to arrest for saying mildly poor-taste comments to bother to address actual threats and acts of terror from the EDL. Fucking FUCK the Police!

I didn't know you were planning on jumping the pond! Dare I ask, possibly the broom?? A good friend of mine's husband came over a couple of years ago, he loves it here, though he's miffed he can only take 3 or 5 (I forget) trips out of the US until he becomes official. He misses his family.

You're coming across the pond?! YOU CAN'T!

He came over on an engagement visa, so they had to get married within (I think) 6 months from when he arrived. Then he got his temporary Green Card, meaning he can work, but he can only leave the country once a year, until his Green Card becomes permanent (3 or 5 years). I think it's 3... And he's allotted one trip out of the US a year, though the trips don't have to be a year apart. They had to revise their plans for a Caribbean cruise for their honeymoon, because he wasn't allowed to leave so soon after the wedding.
I believe it's different for different types of visas. He's not planning on becoming Naturalized either, I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I'm sure with your skills, you'd be able to get a skills based visa, not an engagement one (he did, he's a travel agent, no "special skills"). The US government would love to have you come work for our team!
P.S. There are also limits on how long he can be out of the country, but I think it's like 90 (?) days... He can't be away from work that long, so that has not been a problem. Once he gets his permanent Green Card, he can travel outside of the US as long as he wants.
