Checkmate, atheists

Merely that in my experience from numerous news articles, quotes and personal encounters that the above sentence is more than generally true, and that fundies also lack the ability (whether purposely or because their brains are wired that way) to make appropriate analogies.

Yeah, I get that, but I think that's mostly true about Christians only when you say something bad about Jesus and/or when you mock their religion. Same thing with Muslims.

If you talk to them about some other topics (and you're not mocking their beliefs), then I don't think that their sense of humor nor anything else about them is noticeably different from atheists nor anyone else. They only get pissy when you joke about or insult their prophets or their God, while some of them do have the strength to ignore. I think even atheists in this forum would have a similarly hostile reaction if a theist member started to mock Richard Dawkins, Hitchens, Tyson, or some other famous atheist.

Also, I think this is mainly a matter of perspective. Many atheists have the opinion that theists are arrogant, rude, insulting, immature, lack sense of humor, etc. On the other hand, on some of the religious forums that I've been a part of, I've heard theists describing you guys (atheists) with almost the same exact qualities mentioned above. The point is, your understanding of theists (Christians, specifically) is just your own point of view because in fact they also have the same opinions about atheists as you have about them. The OP at the link below written by a Muslim is a proof of that:

Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Not just in the religion department. The political arena is the second biggest that I would use as an example, but it extends to other areas as well. Humor gets more and more infantile and, in some ways, bizarre, the more conservative or unskeptical you get.

I suppose the reason the religious side of it amuses me the most is because God is supposed to be a powerful being of some sort, no matter HOW you believe in god, and yet believers act as if they HAVE to defend Him/Her/It.

Also, you know I'm of the opinion that no one side is more arrogant, etc than the other. My position on humor comes solely from the firm belief that to truly make something funny, you have to have a deep understanding of it, and the vast majority of theists I've run into have proven time and again that not only are they not funny, but they're not very well versed in the things they say they believe. This means they lack the ability to point out basic ironies. They don't know where exaggerations should be placed. And they don't know how to NOT take things seriously.

Yeah that's smart. I wish people would tell me who they are on AF so I don't have to play match the personalities Tongue
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Yeah, I keep a low profile due to work. Specially since my FB is using my real name.

I have a Facebook also, but I have almost nothing in that profile and I rarely go to that site. It's just not that fun and stimulating for me.

RE: Checkmate, atheists
It's the main way many of my friends and I communicate. With one link or status I get to share idiocy, questions for crowd sourcing, crafts, stuff to talk or argue about, food I thought was awesome (some of us are enthusiastic cooks), and so forth. There's very little stupidity that goes on in my feed because I weeded those people out. I have a lot of friends who love Lovecraft, horror movies, history, science, skepticism, politics, etc. We talk about weird things and news and our brain droppings. Also it's a quick way to get news or a question to hundreds of people instead of having to blast text or email.
