Discuss.

You just made that up!

Some willingly choose not to think that anything about their beliefs could be monstrous. Special pleading.

No, I think the Association Fallacy is where you mistakenly go from particular to general.

Martin Luther King was a great man.
Martin Luther King was a Baptist.
---
Therefore, all Baptists are great men.

I think those examples you gave above are just flawed deductive logic.

Tell it to them.

Wikipedia Wrote:An association fallacy is an inductive informal fallacy of the type hasty generalization or red herring which asserts that qualities of one thing are inherently qualities of another, merely by an irrelevant association. The two types are sometimes referred to as guilt by association and honor by association. Association fallacies are a special case of red herring, and can be based on an appeal to emotion.

.....

Examples

Some syllogistic examples of guilt by association:

John is a con artist. John has black hair. Therefore, all people with black hair are con artists.
Jane is good at mathematics. Jane is dyslexic. Therefore, all dyslexic people are good at mathematics.
Simon, Karl, Jared, and Brett are all friends of Josh, and they are all petty criminals. Jill is a friend of Josh; therefore, Jill is a petty criminal.
All dogs have four legs; my cat has four legs. Therefore, my cat is a dog.

Your above example is actually an example of flawed deductive logic, because deductive logic is going from the particular to the general as you wrongly said about the Association Fallacy.

The Association Fallacy is also called a Hasty Generalization. In the fallacy, qualities of one specific thing are inherently qualities of another, simply by an irrelevant association.

The Association Fallacy does go from particular to general.

Martin Luther King was a great man (in the particular).
Martin Luther King was a Baptist (also in the particular).
Therefore, all great men are baptists (in the general).

You see the irrelevant feature between Baptist and great man?
