UK Govt to restrict online porn access

I remember a year 7 class being taken to do some internet research on uniforms. The teacher hadn't checked beforehand what such a search might bring up... one red faced teacher later.

That was a battle to enforce safe search. If you're ignorant if what results you might be requesting...

And kids think that stuff is fun anyway. They can have no real appreciation of what might be healthy.

When was that? Safe search has been enabled for years.

Which is kinda my point. It's bad enough that this legislation is purely reactionary. It's worse that they are reacting to how the Internet was years ago, rather that how it is today.

Not to mention, if their stated reason for doing it is that child rapists / killers looked at regular porn before moving on to image of child abuse, why aren't they banning pornography completely? Under the new legislation, those same men would have just disabled the filter and gone on to do the exact same things.

So, ignoring the whole (valid) point about correlation / causation, they aren't even legislating a solution properly.

Even with safe search turned off (like I use it always)... Searching for "uniforms" will get me a lot of uniforms, school uniforms, flight attendants, basketball, army, Starfleet.... and after scrolling down for quite a few pages, I got this:
Casino Cocktail Uniform

and even more pages further down

Hospital Uniforms Medical Scrubs

Stumbling on porn, even with safe search turned off.... is no easy task.

Of course, type "sexy uniform", and you get a whole different ball game! But then you're just asking for it.

I type in free gay porn or free gay pics in a Google search engine, and plenty of sites pop up.
In what way is that stumbling on porn? I never denied that porn was easy to find. My point was, it's not easy to accidentally stumble upon. I can't remember the last time I clicked a link that I thought was fine and suddenly had a load of porn in my face.
What, you've never typed in free gay porn while looking for cat videos and gotten a shock when all this gay porn came up? Happens to me all the time.

Sorry, I don't think I follow this part. What is not healthy about porn?

I'd like to point out to that Google remembers your preferences, so if you're a family dad/mom with a shared computer, use Ctrl+shift+N or at least have the decency to delete your browsing history. Because if your kids surf for other stuff and porn pops up firstly, guess who's to blame.. Tongue
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

I remember reading about a teacher that brought up whitehouse.com in front of her class not realizing that it was a porn site. The legitimate one was really a .gov address.

Untrue

The online culture currently is littered with porn. Look at yourself in chat... you post images for fun. Kids have no controls for that crap and it becomes normal to them.
The open availability of the stuff is more far reaching. It's the leap anyone can easily make to instant depravity.

I remember that from elementary school. That was forever ago.
