UK Govt to restrict online porn access

UK Govt to restrict online porn access
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23401076

They are attempting to enforce a new piece of legislation that will make ISPs create an opt in option to watch porn. The is done in the guise of the protecting children, but in reality, it's simply a way of David Cameron imposing his personal views on the population and a way of the government trying to tell us what sites are good to go on and what are bad.

"Porn is bad and is destroying our children" - seriously, that's what they're going with, as well as trying to stop paedophilia online (yeah, because that's totally going to work).

And you guys in the US thought attempts to restrict your Internet freedoms were bad!

If parents do not want their children visiting unwanted sites, they must do two things.

1. Online parental controls.
2. Actually be a parent and monitor their children's online activity.

What gets me is that parents no longer want to parent. Instead, they want the internet and television to babysit their children for them. Restricting access for someone else because of lazy parenting is not the way to go.

Define children.
Should a 12 year old be allowed to seek out and watch porn?
I seem to remember myself at that age.... there was no internet, so I couldn't do it... but wanted. Tongue

Also, the UK govt is sneaking in big brother like laws, little by little.
Me no likes.

Parents need to look after their own damn kids. If you can't be bothered to supervise your kids then use safety settings or buy some bloody software that does it for you.

Fuck no to censorship!
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

I'd like to see exactly what kind of blocks they will be. The UK tried to block The Pirate Bay and ways around the block were found within minutes.

Just you wait; first they'll block porn, then they'll block extreme violence, gore, etc. etc.

It is not easy to stumble upon porn on the Internet. Most major sites have policies in place already to remove it (e.g Facebook, YouTube).

I also note that they are trying to completely ban porn that features simulated rape. Where will that stop I wonder? Could BDSM soon be banned as well?

really?
Some time ago, I would just put a random long number on google image search, and within the first 3 pages, I'd get a few porn hits.
I just tried it and it seems this no longer applies... Sad Google must have repelled these hits further down the line...
Oh well... stumbling just became more unlikely.
You have to want it.... and trust an early teen to want it! Tongue

I dunno; maybe it's just me, but I hardly ever click a link and get a page of porn unless I choose to.

Unless Internet adverts have gotten increasingly explicit since I installed various adblockers, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Indeed, ad and flash blockers help.

So, basically the government is going to have to block every single advertiser on the Internet, in case they use porn in their adverts.

Well, I'm sure that will go down wonderfully with then.
