So far, the only Theists I can actually kind of tolerate here have been fr0d0 and SW. PP is making it to the list pretty quickly.

The plot thickens! Smile

How is the Mormon Trinity different then? (apologies if I labeled you wrongly) (and I find I can agree with everything quoted in your 1st paragraph above)

The holy ghost seems a little odd. "he will need no death" - so he's a mortal being then?

He seems legit. Kind of like those NOMs (New-Order Mormons). They go to Church still, but they end up with a lot of their own ideas. I looked into it for a bit when I was leaving the Mormon Church myself.

I assume that someone who finds value in the philosophy of the character of the biblical Jesus but considers all references to heaven and God to be metaphorical, would not technically be considered a Christian by most people who call themselves Christian. The catholic (small 'c') universal Church agrees on the apostolic creed. I think wikipedia is pretty accurate in its definitions.

Strictly metaphorical... perhaps that might disqualify. I, for example (as you know) am anti pseudo literalist, as I'd disingenuously refer to them.
The 'yolk' of a rabbi is his particular interpretation, which is ratified by his peers. / it would depend where that metaphorical interpretation drew the line.
I wouldn't call that person 'Christian' as defined by the universal Church, no.

It seems to me that the more strict and literalist the group is, the more likely it is that they will restrict the definition to themselves. JWs refer to all other Christians as "Christendom" and they use the term to mean "non-Christians who mistakenly call themselves Christians even though they're not." This is a group that pushes Jesus aside and names itself after the god of the OT, mind you.

They are strictly prohibited from coming to places like this. They cannot read any literature that is not first approved by their Church. That being said, a lot of Mormons act the same way, but they tend to be a little more lenient with this.

I get a few JW families in my classes, never a lot. They always stand out as rigid products of strict parenting. Can't help but feel sorry for them. To bad I can't pray for them, it just sounds so generous while requiring no effort at all.

How could you possibly have met any good ones, Frodo?
