Well this has been known effect of oxygen deprivation with in the brain. Similar effects have been observed in centrifuge training with pilots and astronauts. It also has been observed sometimes in conditions such as hypoxia. There is a decent documentary on netflix that details scientific causes of near death experiences. However, a few anomalies have occured that an explination has eluded science.

You guys just do not get it. The increased brain functionality is proof that god is coming to claim their souls. Smile

That is one of the reasons why I enjoy arguing with theists. They have all the "cheat codes" and can change the rules whenever they want. We are constrained by things like logic and evidence.

Maybe the belated increase in brain activity is the result of the Christian realizing, at the moment of death, nothing awaits him beyond and he had debased all of existence for nothing.

I imagine at baptism, the parents are handed one very important, very special, very secret piece of paper that they must apply to their child immediately when they return home. It contains everything that child will need for his Christian life.
