What do yall think of this source? I wouldn't swallow that entire article, but parts of it seem plausible. If we're really going to have WW III, surely it won't be over some piss ant country like Syria.

However World War I was started on similar grounds. I would be a televangelist....but I have too much of a soul.  
I read a news report yesterday where Russia said they're unwilling to go to war with any country. I'll post it if I can find the link again.

WWI started because the war fighting power of the Allied and Central powers were comparable, and therefore each side had a plausible scenario of successful outcome. There is no plausible scenario of successful outcome that I can see for Russia if Russia attack Saudi Arabia. Russia can't topple the Saudi Regime, can't occupy Saudi territory, Saudi Arabia will still have her vast oil resources and wealth. Saudi Arabia's interests would still be unchanged. But Saudi relation with Russia will be permanently poisoned. The US will try all that much harder to wedge Russia out of her sphere of influence in Central Asia. It's not clear exactly what Russia can possibly achieve at all by attacking Saudi Arabia. If Russia truly went to war against the USA, and an invasion of Saudi Arabia would mean a war, NATO would be activated. I don't know if Saudi Arabia is technically a member, but it wouldn't matter. However, they do risk pissing off the entire Middle East and we in the US have some experience with that. |
