What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
Dang!
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Why does everyone else's food look so much nicer than my own? I made a traditional stew, or technically a casserole, earlier today. Back in the day, that was our signature dish; many's the time we would cook and serve a most delicious stew and then I'd get dragged into the bedroom before I got to eat it. Anyway, got a new slow cooker you see and I was going to try it out but it takes about seven hours in there and my stomach has all the patience of my stomach.

So I threw together some carrots, swede, parsnip, Spanish onions, frozen peas, lentils, tinned new potatoes and fresh beef, all roughly sliced and diced, along with a healthy dose of gravy mix and soy sauce. I decided to throw in some couscous as well, since I had some I was given and I've never used it before. That may have been a mistake, because two hours later it had drunk all the liquid and I had made the only stew I've ever seen that I could slice up and serve on a sandwich. Very nice though, and the addition of more water loosened everything up. Got tons left as well, since I'm used to cooking for two. At least supper, breakfast and tomorrow's lunch is sorted.

I love stew. Your post sounds quite yummy, Stimbo.

Speaking of food, I've opted to meet my friends for white pizza. It was between that or sushi but we seem to be eating sushi a lot these days.

I wish I could make my own sushi rolls. It would be fun. Smile

Have a good nite! Big Grin

Something I've noticed that is cool about this site, in terms of "features" is the condensing of posts into one. If you post something then quote someone else, it moves it all together in one post.

Kudos to whoever thought of that! Haha Big Grin

How have I not participated in this thread before now? Love knowing what you're all up to!

I'm sitting here, reading AF, while I wait for some girlfriends to show up for our regular Friday ladies night. Gonna try to keep it early tonight, though. Apparently I have plans for my birthday tomorrow, but no clue what they are. My friends rock Smile

I'm reminded of Stephen Fry's snarkbomb on QI when Rich Hall (iirc) made some disparaging remark about our cuisine: "This from the country that invented spray-on cheese!"

I made a beef stew yesterday, but I'm a little less liberal with the ingredients. Mine starts with a good browning of the beef in a little oil, then sweat chopped onions and garlic to taste (3 cloves works for me, per each pound of beef). Sprinkle a little flour over; stir to cook out the nasty raw flour taste. Add red wine, about a cup, then 4 cups of beef broth and a small tin (6 oz) of tomato paste. A couple of bay leaves and a teaspoon of thyme. Stir it all well and let it simmer for at least 2 hours on the stove top or in the oven. Then add 4 potatoes, a couple chopped carrots, stew for another hour. Lastly, add a couple cups of frozen or fresh peas and just let them warm up a bit. Top with a sprinkle of chopped Italian parsley. Perfect served with a crusty loaf of French bread and a glass of excellent red wine!

As for what I'm up to right now... just finished mowing the lawn and am contemplating a glass of excellent red wine. Wink

Do it! Drink the wine! Nice, simple recipe you've posted here. So easy a theist could make it. Sounds great.
Love your photos too. http://atheistforums.org/thread-21504-po...#pid527463
