Quran 3:154 (Question)

So i am currently reading the quran, and i am wondering if the last sentense of this verse means, literally breasts. Just curious.
"I'll mark them with big letters"

Then after distress, He sent down upon you security [in the form of] drowsiness, overcoming a faction of you, while another faction worried about themselves, thinking of Allah other than the truth - the thought of ignorance, saying, "Is there anything for us [to have done] in this matter?" Say, "Indeed, the matter belongs completely to Allah ." They conceal within themselves what they will not reveal to you. They say, "If there was anything we could have done in the matter, some of us would not have been killed right here." Say, "Even if you had been inside your houses, those decreed to be killed would have come out to their death beds." [It was] so that Allah might test what is in your breasts and purify what is in your hearts. And Allah is Knowing of that within the breasts.

Meh, it's likely some generic way to indicate soul, or the person's thoughts and motives. But I'm guessing here.

Hi ,

This is just another language barrier encountered when translating Arabic to English .

The word used here is Arabic "sudur" , if I'm not wrong . It does not mean "breast" but we have such meaninglesss translations when people try to translate words out of the their context . So in English , I can use the "beat it" sentence pattern to describe "going away" action or "getting out" action . But someone could translate it in another language as "beating people" in the sense of harm . Probably people would not understand what means the original words .


The purpose of this word usage here is to define "intent" , so verse says Allah know your intentions , he know your hearts . A metaphor .

Given that a type of armor that men wore was called breastplate, I doubt that the mention of breasts means boobs.
