What Took Jesus So Long?

Ah, but it was not my estimated age.

Luke 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

So you see, through the word of God, Jesus was 30. Now, I may be mistaken, but I believe you once said that every word in the Bible is not perfect. This wouldn't be a big mistake, but it's one of the few facts we have to the historicity of Jesus. I could also say that Jesus wouldn't lie about his age, backwards or forwards. What purpose would that serve? Just so God could get a jump-start on spreading his word? And, to augment something I already asked, if God was willing to lie about his age, why not do it sooner?

And God is willing to lie:

1 Kings 22:23
Now, therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee.

2 Chronicles 18:22
Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets.

Jeremiah 4:10
Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people.

Jeremiah 20:7
O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived.

Ezekiel 14:9
And if a prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the Lord have deceived that prophet.

2 Thessalonians 2:11
For this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.

So, maybe Luke made a mistake, or maybe God intended to lie. But I still wonder: why age 30?

30 isn't that old when you consider Moses was supposed to be 80 before he got started.

There was no fucking moses, either.

The problem with that is that "luke" also says that "jesus" wasn't born until after 6 AD which, if you add 30 years to that was 36 AD for his alleged crucifixion which just so happens to be the last year that Pilate served as praefect - not procurator - of Judaea.

T'is a mystery...unless one determines that it is all a pile of shit and then the mystery vanishes.

If Moses was an entirely fictional character they wouldn't have given him an Egyptian rather than a Hebrew name. Though he is a little more lost in the mists of time than Jesus.

So you don't know what "Mose" means in Egyptian, huh?

In that Moses was certainly fictional whereas Jesus is only very likely fictional, you're absolutely right.

You may as well try to claim King Arthur never existed, I'm sure he did even if got mixed up in folklore over hundreds of years. Jesus didn't have enough time to build up a folklore though the gospels and the letters of Saint Paul were comparatively hot of the press. A couple of decades of oral transmission keeping Gods intact, right there for you to read. It's a like you're sitting at the feast table of God and you're not eating.

So since we can't prove definitively, it's just best to assume true?

Not.

I heard an interesting theory once that said Jesus was out east studying with the Buddhists.

Most likely scenario is that he was too busy masturbating. It's hard to focus on anything but that until you're thirty.

RE: What Took Jesus So Long?
I figured.

The Egyptian root word ms, usually rendered mose, when the vowels are filled in, means "born to" or "son of" etc.

Hence we get the common theophoric names:

Ramose (Ramesses) son of Ra or born to Ra

Thutmose (Thutmoses) son of Thoth or born to Thoth

Ptahmose son of Ptah or born to Ptah

Ahmose son of Ah or born to Ah.

So "mose" by itself, essentially means "son of fucking nobody."

BTW, the name written into Hebrew is Moshe. "Moses" comes from a Greek convention wherein male names were not permitted to end in a vowel by the writers of the Septuagint.
