Oh no - spirits definitely exist and GC is right - once you drink enough of them the trinity makes perfect sense.

Glen Grant is my favourite of them.

G-C doesn't have enough sense to drink.

The father, the son, and the holy spirit walk into a bar...

...and mankind is freed. Hilarious

The closest I got was to see the Godhead as a sort of "company" where the 3 members of it all have the right to use the company's name, but they are still 3 seperate entities. But then the problem is that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost aren't "God" just like Bill Gates isn't "Microsoft". Thus the idea of what we commonly mean by "God" is completely lost. On the other hand, if these 3 employees were God/divine, then since they are 3 separate entities working under the "Godhead", we effectively have polytheism.

Any theists have coherent explanations, or can you fix up my analogy above?

You are looking at the physical...

I explicitly said I was talking about the metaphysical.

What you say and the way your brain conceives the trinity are very different.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Well then, how about you give your coherent belief on it?

The Trinity is a simple enough concept to understand. Think of it like ice, steam and liquid water; Different things made of the same stuff.

I think this is the same as what I said in the OP though: Mr. Steam, Mr. Ice and Mrs. Water all work for the company "H2O". It's a valid equivocation, because essentially what we're both saying is that these three things are a different manifestation of the one thing, whether it be a company or a liquid etc.

Stop beating around the bush and just call it a mystery like the rest eventually do.
