Real life discussions never again

Real life discussions never again
I can't do it anymore. Discussions that take place face-to-face lend themselves too well to bullshit. Discussion boards have spoiled me.

The advantages of having discussions take place in discussion board format:

1. The advantage of turn-based exchanges: You cannot be inhibited from addressing any of the content of your opponents post(s). Face-to-face you can be cut off; All your opponent has to do is raise his/her voice and start talking, and you're cut off before you address everything your opponent said previously, or cut off in the middle of presenting your argument against a specific point (fukkin rustles my jimmies.) The potential for unsupported claims or fallacious reasoning to bypass onus or reason arises; they're hurriedly buried beneath more unsupported claims and fallacies before they get the chance to be brought to light (or rather, 'scrutiny' - if you don't believe in the cleansing truth of gods light)

2. The advantage of having all content written/saved: You have the ability to look over everything that has been exchanged between you and your opponent, exactly as it has been said. Having this ability is useful for a kajillion reasons, but I'll name 3 that come to mind first:
a) In the event that your opponent contradicts him/herself, it can be easily spotted and more easily pointed out.
b) In the event that your opponent commits a strawman fallacy, or starts to stray away from the subject of discussion, is to easier to point out that he/she is no longer arguing against your position, or that he has strayed away from the general subject, by simply directing him/her to a previous posting.
c) Generally just being able to give every word spoken its due assessing is hugely advantageous, that is, if the purpose of a discussion is to find truths.

3. The advantage of the discussion not taking place in real-time: You have all the time in the world to think your response through, make it as best read as possible (make use of that vocabulary, son) and to assess all content; not having to worry about your opponent taking a moment of silence as his/her queue to fire up again.

4. The advantage of having your discussion take place in text, on a monitor, as opposed to having it take place in speech, between two (or more) living, breathing bodies of flesh: The subject of discussion holds more emphasis when the discussion is impersonal. People are more likely to be influenced or swayed by emotion in person, because it's easier to convey it in person.

After having what might as well be a room-mate for 2 months, I've let myself have a few exchanges with the guy, and these (unpleasant) exchanges have made me realise just how much I value discussions that take place in discussion board format. I can't imagine trying to seriously debate anything with anyone ever again unless it's done on a forum. Fuck people; I tried, and they failed. If you want to talk, go to your room and get on your computer; I'll be on mine.

Does anyone else know these feels?

Mildly amusing since that is your post and you were the first to post: This guy - the guy who inspired me to make this thread - (A violent cunt with an ego as big as his victim complex) made me think "Huh, this guy is not dissimilar to that user 'TheGermansAreComing' on atheistofurms.org. I wonder if Germans is like this guy in real life, too? Kind of a funny thought."
Indeed, a funny thought.

I know what you mean. I'd rather do this in writing for all the same reasons.

And where did you get your psychology degree?

In all seriousness.
I really try not to play the victim card. Partly because what I was victim of makes me feel ashamed to some extent and partialy because I refuse to accept that I might be a victim.
I am biased towards you because you are a troll, but the biggest amount of bias against you from me orginiates from that pathetic plea for pitty you made, claiming that you are "depressed" because you use to bully people.
As someone who suffered from bullying to an extent that gave me regular nightmares but still does not beg for pitty I can only look down at that behavior with some amount of rage and disgust and only say that you do not deserve the pitty that you couldnt give when you were amusing yourself sadisticaly by praying on the weak and vulnerable.

You have no idea who I am in private. And you never will.

Not because of internet bla bla bla

But because I think you are not a nice person.

Pros and cons. lol I agree with all you have posted here, but the only drawback with the internet, texting, etc...is you can't see the person's expression, or hear their tone. Were they joking? Were they being sarcastic? Were they upset? I've been offended far more online or in texts, than I have ever been offended by my friends in person. lol And really, if I could have just heard their tone, I wouldn't have been offended. (most likely)

I actually proposed to the guy that we have a debate on a forum sometime.

Our exchange went thusly:
"why?? they ccould just be copy n pasting other ppls works n shit!! they might just be sum snot nozed 12 year old punk who dunt understand what theyre even sayin!!"
"Why is that relevant? Your opponents intelligence isn't what's up for debate. It matters what's said, not who's say-"
"NO OF COURSE IT MATTERS WHOS THE ONE SAYIN IT LIKE WTF WHAT IF THEY DONT EVENJ HAVE PIECES OF PAPER THAT TELL ME THEYRE SMART THEYRE ALL FUKKIN LIARS ABOUT THEIR EDUCATION."
"You're coming dangerously close to committing an argument from authority fallacy. Like I said, it doesn't matter who they are, it matters what they'r-"
And then he continued to raise his voice, drowning out my responses, committing fallacies left and right - and not a single reasonable thing was said by him thereafter.

I do enjoy forum discussions for reasons 1,2, and 4, but reason 3 cuts both ways. I happen think very quickly on my feet, and it can be advantageous in face-to-face discusssions.

I also really prefer forum discussions when I'm feeling misanthropic.

Hwat.

I used to bully people (at the time I wouldn't call it bullying, but looking back on it now, I would label some of the things I did as bullying.) I used to get bullied, too. I am currently depressed with my state of existence in general.

All that is true^

I don't remember ever claiming that I am depressed because I bullied people, though. You must be thinking of someone else. Then again, you're an alcoholic, and it wouldn't be the first time you've outright misread something.
