Though I may regret asking, I still have a morbid curiosity, so I'll ask; If we were together in a place where a criminal pulled out a gun and threatened violence, or worse, started shooting, would you be glad that I was there, and that I am highly trained, and have my sidearm with me; or do you think I shouldn't have a gun at all?
Shooting in a crowd is almost never the right answer. You may think you are "highly trained".... so were these cops.

Jessica Grayson was driving behind a pickup truck when the truck suddenly stopped in front of her, blocking her lane. A man exited the truck and approached Grayson's vehicle. He began beating on the window and grabbing the door handle in an attempt to get in. Jessica quickly pulled out her Colt .357 revolver. A man attempted to rob a Dollar General store in Evansville, Ind., with what appeared to be a plastic-wrapped gun. Pastor Carl Sanders was approached by the robber and told to get on the ground, but Sanders pulled his own pistol and said, "No, you get on the ground." Police arrived and arrested the robber, and the pastor plans to visit him to help him get his life on track. (14news.com, Evansville, Ind., 10/20/13)
At approximately 11 p.m., a resident responded to the sound of an intruder entering his home. A 21-year-old man had used a shovel to break through a back window and enter the residence. The resident retrieved a firearm and shot down a hallway toward the intruder. The intruder, who already had a long list of previous offenses, was struck and later pronounced dead. Two armed men entered a Houston auto shop and car dealership demanding money. The owner, Mack Agaybi, saw the suspects on his security monitor in his office before they entered, and left the office with his gun to confront them. Jan Cooper, 72, was at home with her husband, Bob, 85, when she made a 911 call for help as a man attempted to break into their home. She told police to hurry as the assailant was on her back porch trying to gain entry through a sliding door. She told the police that she was armed with a .357 revolver and that she would shoot if need be. When she heard the door sliding open, she fired. The intruder fled, but was later found and arrested for burglary. Just think if Pope John Paul II had a gun on him when that guy shot him back in 1981. An AK-47 would have been well hidden in his papal robes. Or if only they'd outfitted the popemobile with armor and grenade and rocket launchers. That would teach any would-be assassins and send a clear message that after turning the other cheek, men of God will open up a can of whoop ass.
