Well, just looking at my in-laws, and remembering how I was when I was a conservative Christian, they tend to isolate themselves from any contrary viewpoints. Most Christians like to surround themselves with other Christians so they can provide each other communal reinforcement. If you surround yourself with people who think like you do, then it reinforces your idea that you are right. Hearing contrary viewpoints makes them uncomfortable, so to hear a nationally-syndicated radio personality spewing stuff they agree with makes them happy because if someone on the radio is saying what you believe, then it must be true. Same goes for Fox News. My in-laws never watch any other news stations or programs and get probably 100% of all their news from Fox News.

This is probably why they don't include me in getting involved in the get-rich-quick schemes they've been getting involved with, because I told them the one they were in last year was probably a ponzi scheme, and sure enough it was shut down by the government as one of the biggest ponzi schemes ever in this country. But when I told them my suspicions they just blew it off and kept attending their meetings. And after that one was shut down they got involved in another similar scheme which collapsed, and then got into another which looks like it will go nowhere. But they apparently don't want my "negativity" to dampen their enthusiasm so they keep going to meetings but don't discuss their MLM schemes with me.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

oh dear. The more they fail, too, the more they're gonna be weird towards you because they're going to dig their heels in aren't they? sad.
What gets me is that so many people listen to Rush freaking Limbaugh! all that's on the commercials is, "the economy is dying so buy our gold!" then its, "silver is the new gold!" banks and the federal reserve can't ensure your financial safety, buy gold! then there's just hypocricy to the Max. Ill start a thread next time I end up listening to it.
Long story short, I'd be afraid of Americans who are afraid of America, too.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Hi from the UK. Fellow Brit*?

From some of your posts, it seems your'e having fun already! So far, you seem to have little in common with some of the more fundamental christians on the board and I'm looking forward to those inevitable conversations Angel

*edit: just seen your natter with Fidel. We'll have a chat about the importance of religion in the UK soon. Big Grin

I'll pick this up with you another time. Jacob's intro thread isn't the place.

I've only seen boiled or grilled eels.

If you can handle British surrealist situation comedy, check out The Mighty Boosh s03e1: Eels

You won't be any better informed about jellied eels but at least you'll laugh when someone mentions them!

Dunno if you've ever been to the US, Jacob, but it's been my experience that USians are MUCH nicer at home than abroad.

Every time I've been, nowt but warm, friendly, lovely people.

I don't doubt this is generally true. However, when I'm a guest in someone else's country, I do my best to be on my best behavior. Unfortunately, I see a lot of my countrymen acting like dicks.

So I tell everyone I'm Canadian, eh.

RE: Wotcha
Eh. My dads goin all "take a walk in the desert cuz I'm no good to anyone" crazy again, my sister is pushing me out of her life because I'm moving to Australia, and none of my family besides my mom bother to talk to me anymore since I was forced to move out of state due to altitude sickness. Until I'm able to transfer myself to Australia to be with the love of my life, I'm just in limbo. Oh and I'm trying to figure out how to bring my dumb dog who will most definitely lose the will to live if I leave her behind.

In conclusion I think I'll go eat some worms Tongue

I'd like a good discussion on this, Ben, at some point, as it's one of the few topics I have a decent amount of knowledge on Smile
