What I saw offline today.

I took this on the way home from a walk with the pup yesterday. This is the street and block where we live. On the left side of the street are warehouses. The ones you see here are all work/no-live spaces. In the middle of the block we have the smallest of the warehouses. The extra space is mostly for the wife's weaving equipment. But living in a warehouse means never having to give or throw anything away.

My last principal charitably described my neighborhood as "sketchy". I think that is fair. The next block is all low income subsidized houseing (fourplex's) and noted as the second worst drug area in town. People say it looks like we live in a compound surrounded by high walls, which adds a little mystique to the garden. Don't you think the utility poles add a little .. something to the allure of the neigborhood?

@Whateverist, thanks for the pics, the flower looks really cute when it blossoms too.

@walking void, not embarrassed, just ... flummoxed. Mainly because it's a plant and that I didn't know people had urges to breastfeed things.

We had rain the past two days and tonight was incredibly windy. We got out for a walk with the dog.



Then we stopped at a gallery in Monclair where our friend had an exhibition open. These are all extremely complex woven forms, most are in the kimono motif.

I thought it might be a nice way to get the flavor of each others' surroundings and life to post a picture of something we see. Maybe it will be a favorite room or bookshelf or a storefront or someone's front garden. You're going to see some shots from walks with the pooch and the garden here from me. But I'll have to get you some shots from out and about my sketchy neighborhood too. Might throw in a look at my school's garden and Lia's studio.

I forgot to take a picture while I was out. So here's something I see everyday on the fridge My neice came up with that when we were making pumpkin pictures and spooky halloween things on her own and I almost fell over laughing, I love it! And it glows in the dark

Oh goody! That's the spirit. I'm seeing what you see whenever you go to the fridge. Those are hands coming out of the ground of zombies? Cool. A Halloween thing? Or maybe inspired by a video game.

I like the way the stars sit in a nice shiny glob of glue. Please pass my compliments on to your niece.

Damn your good with macro

You're very generous, thank you. I wish my camera phone would let me do extreme closeups too. But what you see here is about as close as I can get and stay in focus. In the first one I posted here the one head of the 'Cyclops' Aeonium in the foreground is in about as good a focus as the background. In the second one the Greyia flower and its leaves are pretty much in focus but the background is decidedly out of focus. I don't seem to be able to dial in either outcome. So my solution is to shoot a bunch and look for the diamonds.

New Rules: what you saw doesn't have to be 'today' today, just more or less todayish. Here is a little video I took of the dog on that same walk. It shows her climbing a tree, something she does to please me. I think it helps her develop her agility and it's a lot of fun to watch.

She climbed a couple tree's on today's walk but I forgot my phone. So here is a fairly todayish video:

This is the view out toward the Golden Gate bridge from the Point Isabel dog park, which is a couple miles north of Berkeley. I went there for breakfast with Heidi this morning but got this photo there just before sunset recently. I hear it is one of the biggest dog parks in the country at 23 acres. When the tide is out, it becomes larger as the dogs can run around on the bay floor.

Arizona sky, again. I'm excited to travel at least for different daytime clouds and nighttime stars.

Fawn, the pup. One ear sticks up a lot and the other lacks any stiffness to stand.

A friend's son. Cute kid. He fell asleep on me during a somewhat lengthy car ride across town.
