Gay Conversion Therapy
I just watched the movie, "But I'm a Cheerleader". I had forgotten how much I liked it. Here's a description:

Does anyone here have any experience in or around this type of "therapy"? I can only assume it's dangerous, but I would like to hear an experienced person's take.

I love that movie, as well.

I have no personal experience with it, thank goodness, but I do comprehend what horrible things happen to teenagers who are sent there by ignorant and intolerant parents. There is one writer I am fond of reading, who writes about gay characters and also abhors those types of institutions, and if you want you can check out her works. Robin Reardon.

I love the hypocrisy. The sexual orientation isn't permanent, but we can make you permanently heterosexual. Go on, pull the other one.

I talked to some gays in my life. Nice people but most were either constantly running into hatred or mockery. Many also felt constant shame and inner conflict because society keeps telling it's bad. I wish they would just be left alone.

As for therapy I talked to one dude who was being locked up in psych ward in soviet union for being gay. It ended up not curing him but making him suicidal instead.
