Starting off having faith that you're right and then 'deciding to believe' isn't a very reliable test for knowledge. Really, I don't think 'belief' should work that way either. I can't even imagine what it would be like to decide to 'believe' something without having reason -not incentive mind you- but a concrete reason for thinking it true apart from what you might wish. Of course Christianity has been a dominant enough force in the landscape for long enough as to warp the meaning of that word. Now the muscular, Christian sense of belief has a prominent place in the dictionary even if it makes no sense at all in the world of ideas. I believe I said God lead. God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

My question is this; why would anyone step into this obvious ambush? If I were a "theist" (pick a brand) it would be silly of me to admit/confess my faith, knowing the obvious outcome would be insults being hurled at me from the peanut gallery. I understand "witnessing" and all, but GC, I think you are casting your pearls among some without the perception required to comprehend the message you wish to share (I won't use the word "swine"). Godschild, if your message is not received, let your peace return to you, and when you leave that house/town, brush the dust from your sandals, and carry your word to the man of peace.

You certainly couldn't be a Christian and keep it to yourself, Christ says those who deny Me, I will deny before my Father. You can not know who might be effected by the posts I put up. So if it's okay with you I'll keep on doing my thing. GC (January 14, 2014 at 3:21 pm)rasetsu Wrote:(January 14, 2014 at 3:13 pm)Godschild Wrote: Diamonds are rocks. I just thought I'd offer you a refresher glance at your spiritual guidebook's recommended path in such instances. Heck, for all you know, Jesus is trying to get your attention and is yelling... "What the hell are you doing? Those loaves are for my flock!" But feel free to do yo thang bra. Matthew 7:6 New King James Version (NKJV)I assume you enjoy the lashes.
I'm a 1. As for my reason, this is the best way I can think of to explain it:
C. S. Lewis Wrote:I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else. (January 14, 2014 at 9:07 pm)Avodaiah Wrote: I'm a 1. As for my reason, this is the best way I can think of to explain it: Has anyone else noticed that rather than explanations, the level 1 theists are offering only poetry & rhetoric? When I've needed to explain why I don't believe, I've been able to state the specific items which lead me to my conclusions (e.g. lack of physical evidence, logical fallacies, historic inconsistencies). Further, when challenged to describe situations where I'm anti-theistic (make the positive claim of non-existence, i.e. level 7), I'm able to provide similar specifics which allow me to describe my positions and compare/contrast with the evidence which only leads me to disbelief. What I'm hoping to see from the theists are similarly specific lists so that we can have some meaningful discussions. Any of you up to that challenge?
