For the Love of Money; the addiction of money.
January 21, 2014 at 3:40 am
For the love of money, by Sam Polk, a former hedge fund manager.
A very, VERY interesting look into the mind of someone absurdly rich and needing more...essentially everyone on Wall Street. Essentially everyone who needs more
more
more
more
To quote Poets of the Fall:
Quote:Mirror mirror on the wall
What do you give someone who has it all
More, just to be sure
I got what I wanted, so naturally I want more
What I paid for, entertain me now
All I want is more, cos I like it
Too good to let it go, keep it coming
Cos I want more, cos I'm not sure
What I really wanted, so all I want is more

Dude... those poll answers are just... no.
The people who have money beyond any reasonable ability to spend it, and desire yet a more absurdly unspendable amount of money are *probably* at least a little greedy, and they *MAY* be addicted to the power/status said absurdity provides. However... intense/selfish desire for money is not always for those reasons. Hell, plenty of rich people simply *really enjoy* having a bunch of money, and spending it freely on whatever whim they have today. Even I, who could scarcely be called 'rich', basically act as such with my money, because I don't really need or really care about it... and there are plenty of rich people who are like me in such ways. They're usually called 'philanthropists'. Having more money kind of does mean that one can be more free in dispensing good upon the world.
Also, a lot of the richer (but likely not the very richest) people just feel very stressed about their money. Sure, maybe they don't 'need' more... but what if *something* happens?
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day

What else holds the US together but the promise of wealth? Nothing.

You are way off. Money is only a means for us to enjoy our favorite past-time....

What else holds ANY nation together but the promise of wealth?
Politics is a non-profit charity dedicated to ensuring the profit of businesses.

I think you can get addicted to just about anything. Money is easy to get addicted to because it gives you access to everything else. Aside from abstract things like true loyalty and such, of course.

Without fair taxation, those with money will sit upon untold capital while their fellows starve, receive poor education and never escape the cycle of poverty.
Easier to be a greedy prick than a humanitarian.
Ergo why private charities in lieu of government funded aid do not scale.
Slave to the Patriarchy no more

I haven't gotten around to reading an associated article or opinion, but saw a headline last night claiming the top 85 people hold as much wealth as the bottom 50% (3.5 billion). If accurate, it is proof that the system is fucked.

Oh the system is fucked that is for sure. The money lenders and use of usury is going to destroy the world. When you control the creation of money you control the people who rely on it for everything. In a sense we are all debt-slaves.
Money mixed with the materialistic society we live in is dangerous, where the world is void of morals people will do anything for money regardless of it's morality.
