It's been a while since I have bothered to take any pics of our developing garden and in-light of the current hot weather here....

Just LOOK at what a few days of 40C+ can do to a Betula!
Meanwhile the "Aussie Natives" are on a growth rampage!
You remember that "token rainforest of mine"?
Summer in the Backyard
The (NOW) Mediterranean Herb patch
My potted plants though seem to be surviving (so far)

You've chosen well to keep everything doing so well through the temps you've been getting. With our drought looking bad and after the freeze I'm considering calling off the garden party this year. Lets move it to your place!

Dypsis lutescens
Anthurium andraeanum: Flamingo Lily
Rhapis sp
( ? Rhapis excellsia apparently it's only a baby)
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis cv (I forget which cv)
Citrus aurantifolia cv 'Sublime'
Once the heat gives up and the $$$$ are available, our water feature project can proceed. After that?...... is the decking in that area, lighting and chairs, screens and plants. Our services are on this side of the house so it is, mostly, container grown plants...not that I would have that many.

Oh, you masters of earth and greenery, please tell this ignoramus, what is a Betula and why does it look like a birch..?
EDIT: Google is my friend, and obviously I wasn't too far off
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

So sorry Kayenneh, I spent 5 years doing Horticulture and it was drummed into us that common names were taboo! "You want to name something...then use the botanical name and that way no one will get confused"
This one is a 'White Birch' it apparently survives summers here in Perth better than any other of the species. This little one is only 5 years old (Almost 2 years in situ). The Mentha x piperita 'Chocolate' ( http://www.herbcottage.com.au/chocolate-mint.html) is quite robust and can tolerate being burnt to a crisp with the hot winds and sun light.
Actually, when one thinks a bit about it all, not unlike yourself with your pharmacological knowledge?

Right this very minute? I would LOVE to have "snow on the ground" my garden may not be so happy about it.
What I have learnt of Maryland and that area of North Eastern USoA it must be lovely. Be glad you have cold rather than heat little one.

Oh, it's quite alright, today I learned something new!
And yeah, I guess it's exactly the same as pharmacological terminology.
