Classic Rock ended when Punk (good) and Disco (bad) took over. The 1980's was all about U2, REM, and the Police. I don't consider any of those Classic, certainly not in the same category as Zepplin, the Stones, and definately not Janis.

To me, 70's rock has always had that classic rock vibe to it. I think 70's rock really ought to be a radio genre in itself. Same with 80's pop. Back in Pittsburgh, everybody listened to 70's rock. There's just something very mulletheaded about it.
I grew up liking Boston, and I still like The Hooters, though I think that's more 80's. You'd hear those from time to time in Pittsburgh, along with Styx.

When you have songs from bands like Creedence Clearwater Revival.
