Lesbian Movies

I know the majority of you are not gay/lesbian so you probably have not seen these films, so let me list some of the one's that don't TOTALLY suck, in chronological order:
Madchen in Uniform (German, 1931)
This is based on a play which is based on a book called The Child Manuela. The book is nothing like the film. The color version of this film made in 1958 inspired Loving Annabelle, which will also be on this list. The reason why the 1958 version is not going to be on this list is because I don't like it.
Not officially lesbian but, The Children's Hour (1961)
The exact same film could be remade today, 50 years later, and it would still be relevant and resonate with audiences.
Bound (1996)
Okay, it's debatable whether this is a "lesbian film" or just a mainstream film that happens to have lesbian content. Whatever, the lesbian content is not background noise, it's a major part of the plot. The sex scene in this film is legendary. Gina Gershon goes butch in the role of Corky, while Jennifer Tilly goes femme. There's plenty of action to boot.
It's in the Water (1997)
An early lesbian comedy, and hey, no one dies, goes insane, or is incarcerated, which is rare for lesbians in film (or television, or even literature).
Gia (1998)
Not for the faint of heart. This is not Angelina Jolie's first lesbian role, either. This is the film that made me understand why Angelina Jolie was such a sex symbol. Even when they tried to ugly her up, she couldn't help but be gorgeous. To this day I still miss the unabashed crazy bisexual Angelina Jolie. She's become so boring and domestic, as though she were straight.
Aimee & Jaguar (1999)
Not on Youtube.
I don't know why, but queer German cinema is fantastic. It just is and always has been. The main story takes place in World War II, so the titular characters have to be sneaky about their relationship.
Better Than Chocolate (1999)
(Sorry, could not find a Youtube video of it at this time. You can actually rent it on Youtube for $2.99, which is totally worth it.)
It's hard to say whether this was a comedy for a drama but it works. Despite some laughable moments (The two main lesbians move in together after having just met. See: U-Haul lesbian), there are some unforgettable scenes. The sex scene, for example. Also, the musical numbers. I haven't studied it extensively, but this may be the first portrayal of a transgender character on screen (not played for laughs, at least).
But I'm a Cheerleader (1999)
Again, I couldn't find the full movie for free on Youtube but you can rent it, so totally do that.
I like this lesbian comedy so much I own it. It stars Natasha Lyonne, who also plays a lesbian in the recent TV show Orange is the New Black. Also, Rupaul is in it. It parodies ex-gay camps. It's pretty hilarious and has an awesome soundtrack. Watch it. Watch the hell out of it.
If These Walls Could Talk 2 (2000)
If I recall, this film tells three stories of lesbian couples from different eras. Ellen Degeneres is in it, and if you don't like her, there's something wrong with you.
The Truth About Jane (2000)
I'll admit the ending ties up way too quickly into a pretty little bow and makes you go, "As if!" Still, this movie is special to me because it embodied all my fears and showed me that even facing all that adversity, Jane would ultimately be okay, even loved and accepted by those around her. It let me know that I would be okay when I was newly out and not sure what it meant for me that I was gay yet.
Lost and Delirious (2001)
No freeness. Sorry. But consider renting it.
Warning: This is a tragedy. Still, I liked the Shakespeare references, and it stars a young Piper Perabo and Mischa Barton.
DEBS (2004)
Fuck yeah spy girls in Catholic school girl uniforms with guns! Plus Jordanna Brewster! *drools* This is a solid lesbian romantic comedy.
Gray Matters (2006)
Another good lesbian romantic comedy. Gray (played by Heather Graham) is just an adorkable lesbian.
Imagine Me & You (2006)
You can rent it on Youtube.
Another lesbian romantic comedy. Look, I totally don't support breaking up a couple, but if someone is living a lie and you can break them out of that mold, do it.
Loving Annabelle (2006)
Youtube no haz. Sorry.
In the end, this is a tragedy, but I like it because, who hasn't had feelings for a teacher? And Annabelle is magical enough with her guitar that she makes shit happen. You go, girl.
Itty Bitty Titty Committee (2007)
Again, no Youtube.
Hilarious story of radical anarchist feminists and their shenanigans. The stunt they pull off at the end is totally unrealistic, but you know, funny as hell.
I Can't Think Straight (2008)
No Youtube again.
I don't really remember much about this movie except for the sexy dance scene, which made watching the whole movie worth it.
And there haven't been any good lesbian movies since then. That's right, 5 years of pretty much nothing. Y HOLLYWOOD NO LOVE LESBIANS?
If you have watched lesbian movies, what are your favorites? If you have not, watch one or more on this list and tell me what you think. BTW, porn does not count. And whatever you do, do not watch any movie tagged on imdb with both the keyword "lesbian" and "vampire." Believe me, I have watched all of them and THEY'RE ALL TERRIBLE! Okay, watch Bloodrayne and Rise: Blood Hunter for teh sexay. But other than that, no. Don't do it.
