RE: Positive Atheism
Oh, I get it, so...

Everyone who reads the bible is acted on by the holy spirit in some way. If you get done reading it and are humbled, such as to become a Christian, then the holy spirit moved your heart and you get all the rice crispy squares! If you get done reading it and are NOT convinced, then the holy spirit either chose not to assist you, or hardened your heart. OR you (being a pig-headed atheist) failed to open yourself up to the experience.

Did I get it right Fr0d0?

I guess I better open myself up to the holy spirit while I am reading the copy of the Quran I have. I wonder what spirit is needed to understand "The God Delusion"?

Well if you want to suspend intelligence and go along with the skeptic interpretation that's your choice > no rice crispy squares. Likewise if you're not at a point to understand.

You know Rhiz you did it.

TGD I'd suggest something very strong. That stuff is shite!

RE: Positive Atheism
Dude,

I was sanctified in the spirit on top of being saved and I still can't make sense of the bible unless I ignore the icky bits! It was at youth camp and was an additional service for saved children to go all "next level" beyond salvation. Weird practice that I have not heard of since.

I cannot even explain the effort and mental flip-flops I went through to maintain my belief in God! To say it is my choice is just moronic. I would love to believe in God again, as wholeheartedly as I did when I was a child, but, I am all grown up and have seen through the bullshit.

I have asked you, Arcanus, and even Anto Kennedy about what path leads to a belief in God. The reason for my questioning wasn't to find a new argument to refute but a genuine searching for the answer. The result has, so far, been further proof that there is no reasonable answer. Anto forgot how he arrived at his belief (how conveinient), Arcanus posited the TAG (which I have yet to look into fully), and then there is you who merely says that you have reasons and have yet to expound on those reasons.

One thing you and I can agree on is that there is a truth out there and I want to know it. There either is or isn't a god or gods. If god exists then which god is the right one? I would be one step closer to believing in God if you actually attempted to solve this one for me.

Rly?! I thought you said you were a Christian as an adult - fully signed up rational Christian. Sorry I had you wrong.

As the recent posts illustrate.. it isn't the rationalism that matters so much as your state of mind. If your mind is set on one position you're not going to change it.

You ask me the question and I find the task to list my rationalisations insurmountable. I did honestly try hard with Evie in 'debate'. But we got to the beginning and hit Evie's unwillingness to consider anything much.

It isn't something anyone can magically do for you. It's simply your own rational position. Is the truth out there? Is there a God? Does it matter? What matters to you? Is the truth God? Or is God the path? You seem to focus the question on God. I don't.

No you had it right, but my faith in God was shining and pure as a child, as was my belief in Santa and the Easter bunny, but as time wore on, I obtained new information that didn't jive with my beliefs. Santa and EB went away really fast because my parents admitted that they were lying to me about them. God; well, they still believe in god so it took much longer to see that there is no substance to any god claims.

My mind isn't set on any position other than I exist, which is really the only thing I can know 100% everything else is a matter of probability and right now I believe there probably is no god or gods. I will never give up my search for the truth.

"I think, therefore I am" was a very skeptical view. All he could prove was that (at least to all appearances) he was a self-conscious individual.

So if all you know is that you don't know, than you know something, don't you? Now that hurt. Smile

Why did you assume or conclude that the new information was correct and your beliefs were wrong?
