Communes

RE: Communes
I love how people are looking at a picture of a girl in a field with a flowy skirt hula hooping and mentioning hippies like it is going to be a problem.

I don't have experience and you won't until you try. Go for it. Just send up smoke signals so we can save you if there is a psycho fucking everyone and their kid leading the place, yeah?

I really love the idea of communal living; sharing skills and resources, etc. I've been looking through a directory of communes (intentional living) in California, and they don't all seem to be Jesus freak cults. I'm in a position right now where I need a life change, and something like this is very tempting. Pros? Cons?

Well I haven't read the rest of the topic but I'm thinking you might run into hippies. Has anyone warned you about the goddamn HIPPIES? Just looking out for you, my atheist sister!
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Well, I've found some interesting things... seriously, being a "hippie" is absolutely not necessary, although, like I said, I'm not entirely turned off by the hippie thing, and I would embrace it if I decided to join a commune of that nature.

I bounced it off of my IRL friends tonight, and everyone laughed at me. I decided to drop it and bounce it off them one-on-one sometime in the future. I understand why they laugh, but I think they underestimate me a bit.
