What's up bro? I had to say something, you were all up in arms laughing at someone for saying they have altruistic motivations for working. What was I supposed to do? Tell you, you were acting like a goose; Or, try to find some middle ground where you would be able to understand?!
And yes, money is a wretched commodity.

Hmm, well I wasn't laughing [b]at[/] Pippy, I was laughing at the concept that the idea you hold in your head while working has any real effect on whether you are doing it for money or not. I respect him for the most part, but just find much of his thought processes to be questionable and probably a source of cognative disonance.

IN YA FACE! plus it would have been eaten before life coud apear.

Rhizo No biggy,
I think the real underlying issue, which we were sort of getting around to, is the concept of "slave wagery". No matter what, there's no good way for us lower-middle class people to avoid the hourly slog to survive. That's inescapable and you're right in that respect Rhizo; the idea you take to work makes no physical difference in the world. And we can't all get a job that's benefits others, or does something good, that wasn't the real issue.
The issue is the fact that we're working for "slave wages". Because our pays are so small so as to barely keep us comfortable in living standards, while there are mega dollars in so few hands. Where's the ethical dimention to that? And how can you support such a system that keeps you chasing a carrot on a stick? This is the issue, and that's where the motivation comes from.

Well Truthworthy,
There are three paths that come to mind that will allow you to exit the "wage slave" system:
1. Live simply so you don't need much and find something you enjoy that people will pay you a modest wage for
2. Increase your utility to society so you make more money
3. Live off the land! Ok, so in cities we call them the homeless and most of them sponge off the garbage from society but some just don't want to join in and that is thier choice
1 is the way it is because most things people enjoy doing (Playing music, Painting, writing poetry, etc.) have plenty of people willing to do them which decreases the monetary gain available.

Yes mushroom, your right.
It can come off as silly, but I think why I do what i do is imperative. Actions are actions, but if your motivator is different it can make a huge difference. My relationship with money leads me to not take it very seriously, and especially not make it worth more than it is.
I would disagree that modern money is a good idea, or the best yet as characterized. Old gold coins, sure, but not modern money, which is a great game. I spent years learning about economics, because it was so nonsensical. You mean there always has to be inflation? Why? That seems a little absurd. And credit, not really a good idea. May be for a farmer to be able to plant in the spring, but not to float your lifestyle on. I personally have no credit. I don't believe in credit. So when the gov't comes after me and demands it's money owed, I can politely say that credit is against my beliefs. So is getting stuff for free. Silly humans. "Air Miles card?", "No", "Do you want one", "Not at all", "But you get free stuff", "Does Air Miles exist only to give me free shit?", "Of course!"... Every day.
And yes, as soon as people are bathing in money in a hip-hop videos, and the precedent is to trade time, energy and some things more sacred for it, we have entered into an unhealthy relationship with an object.
But money is worthless, it only pretend to hold value as long as the system stands. If the lights went out and did not come back on, no one would care how many pictures of dead presidents you have. Food. Weapons. Firewood. These have real value.
But yeah, I think it is important to define my motivators for what I do. I don't think myself better than anyone, it is not an exercise in bragging. It is just important to me.
I play music and pain and write poetry too!
Wanna hear one I wrote?
Watching birds,
Wonder if they dream,
Of running.
Thanks.
