To abort or not to abort

I really don't see how you can compare the two.

Beccs, ask yourself what things a being must be capable of in order to qualify as a person. If you are honest, a human being under general anesthesia is not capable of those things. They were in the past....They will be(mostly likely) in the future.....but while under GA...they are not capable of those things.

Let me ask you this. Do you consider cryogenically frozen "people" persons? Would you change your mind if it was shown that in the future science would be capable of bringing these dead people back to life?

Independent respiration is always a good start. Don't try to deine honesty for me, it's just a desperate attempt to reinforce your argument at the expense of others.

But, to answer your second paragraph, your stretching the bounds of credibility by speculating on what is currently a science fiction scenario.

People who are cryogenically frozen these days have died. Therefore they are dead and, for lack of a better term, empty vessels. Not people any longer. The state of modern cryonics is that those bodies in deep freeze suffer from "freezer burn" and, if medical technology does advance far enough to revive them, they will need to undergo serious regeneration of their bodies before they're viable.

And that's the magic word: "viable". Until a fetus is viable outside its mother's body, it is not a person.

The obligation to protect a being from unintentional harm is not black and white. You don't have an obligation to save the child that fell into the path of an on coming train if doing so means sacrificing your own life. Now you may choose to put your life in jeopardy to save your son and not choose to put your life in jeopardy to save a zygote. The reason is because you value your son more than a zygote.
It may be black and white to you, but only if you believe that a bundle of cells without a brain or nervous system is a 'being'.
I'd say that is hard to justify.
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

Her body; Her choice. I would feel awful if my girlfriend/wife aborted, but it is ultimately her decision. I'm not "against" abortion because it's "life", but because it'll eventually grow up to call my dad and other great stuff like that. I won't hate her, or any woman for it. I hate people who tell women that they should keep the baby, though.

A 'being' doesn't need a brain or a nervous system.

You should know this Chas..

Why?

The two situations are separate and distinct and it is wrong to conflate them.

It would be morally wrong to kill a random Ethiopian. Is it morally wrong to indulge yourself while Ethiopians starve to death?
