HIV would seem to be more of a treatable condition these days so perhaps the choice should be offered to the patient with a failing liver.

I have also heard that anal sex is more widely used in the heterosexual world as well.
I know of one gay sailor over here who was turned down for blood donation and complained that a navy girl who had been accepted had been "done up the arse" by half the marines at CTC RM he'd seen the photos apparently.

So is this behaviour any less risky than gay sex?

They didn't reject him because of HIV risk. They rejected him because his organs would be too fabulous for anyone that needed them.

There's a lag between infection, and infection showing up in testing. For traditional antibody tests the delay can be 3 - 6 months. Some newer tests have less of a delay, but there's still delay.

While I don't necessarily agree with this policy, what's worse is that the virus can remain dormant in an infected individual for as much as a decade.

That might be an acceptable trade off to someone who is in desperate need of a heart, lung, kidney or liver?
