Spring Gardens

Spring Gardens
Finally, a deeply meaningful thread. Smile

Went to brunch at a friends house who has an incredible garden. So it occurs to me I'll probably get to see a number of cool gardens this spring: may as well create a thread to report out what I see .. and invite others to show me gardens they see too.

So this couple is in their 80's and have lived on this acre plus for quite some time. She is a painter & ceramicist; he is a retired patent attorney and makes his own (extremely good) wine. They were inspired by Gaudi to make something whimsical at the end of their driveway.

I'll post one picture not hidden and put the rest under one set of hide tags.

Looks nice, but that green PVC pipe (or whatever it is) looks silly and out of place.

Yeah it is pretty funky. But some folks like the silliness of it. Frankly, I wish they had pumped it full of concrete and then ditched the plastic.

Haven't visited any new gardens lately but I am working on a new section of my own garden. This is in our side yard, alongside the driveway between the house and the creek. Originally we wanted to have a natural-like meadow garden, of the sort we saw at Great Dixter in England. But that turned out to require more upkeep than all the rest of the garden combined.

So for the last year I've been trucking in dirt, rocks and -of course- plants to create a natural, open area. Here are some in-process shots from a month or two ago.

Oh what the hell, here is a drawing and a satellite photo of the garden.

Thanks but do be careful of the apple tree. There is a talking serpent in that one talking all sorts of shit. I fear he may be a danger to himself or others.

I'll probably be pretty scarce around here for the next week. We have our big garden/studio shindig coming up next Sunday. So much still to do!

Here are some snaps from the refurbished meadow garden taken yesterday.

RE: Spring Gardens
I love gardens - as long as other people tend them.

I have NO talent for gardening.

As do I .. but especially I enjoy making one. Too bad it takes so much time to bring the best out of it.

Day after the big garden/studio party.
Perfect day yesterday for our garden/studio party, sunny in the mid 70's F. Just the right number of visitors and they mixed well. Didn't take any photos then but I got these this morning.
