Spring Training
A harbinger of spring for the poor bastards back east who are just cleaning up from another series of storms and facing a deep freeze next week.

The Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals train a mile from my house and I'd go watch if I gave a shit about either team.

Meanwhile....it is 15 degrees in NY, 14 in Boston, 7 in Chicago and 3 in Detroit.

Oh, god, SPORTS. DOES IT EVER END?! Even the boring ones like golf get their own television channels. Sports are just awful. I can't decide which is worse, religion or sports.

Sports is like a religion where we get to boo our gods. Way less stressful.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I can't get away with it this year (just moved, new job, etc.), but this is an ideal time for a little break. I just may end up in your neck of the woods next year. My Reds are down the road in Goodyear.

There's no chance of me becoming a full fledged Mets fan; however, Citi Field is less than 4 miles from where I live (Turner Field used to be 50) so my wife an I look foward to more ballgames. The proximity even puts weekday games in play.

RE: Spring Training
Yeah - Goodyear is about 15 miles due south.

Phillies fan here, I imagine we will do not a fucking thing. Ryan Howard says he's ready this year, which means he will instead be second in strikeouts this year.

The fucko buckos are my team. I look forward to another year of baited disappointment.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Couldn't agree more. How different America would be if the nation's culture more reflected my own.

"Hey, glad you made it. You're just in time for the broadcast of our local orchestra team playing Beethoven's ninth."

*Friends gather round the couch to watch, passing bowls of popcorn and chips*

"C'mon team! Crecendo! Crecendo!"

"Yeah! Yeah!"

*With another brilliant performance, all the gathered friends are high fiving each other. Meanwhile, cameras cut to the live stadium of spectators, zooming in on two rather zealous fans who endure the cold even as they're bare chested so they may sport their body paint violins and G clefs. Suddenly the exuberant spirits fall as the critic walks onto the field with a negative call.*

"Lousy interpretation inconsistent with the composer's intent. Two stars only."

The outraged crowd beings chanting, "Buuullllll shiiiit! Buuullll shiiiit!"

*Conductor begins kicking dust on the critics shoes.*
