Dude, calm down. We actually are a welcoming bunch. But you literally stated a falsehood in your post when you said there was nothing in the rules about advertising. A hallmark of this forum is that no matter who you are, you will get corrected if you say something demonstrably false.

Take it as a lesson. Before you make a statement like that, do a little research.

Seriously, welcome to the forums. This place is really awesome.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I'm not a fan of being called a liar. I read and agreed to the terms I was showed when I signed up. I didn't read the additional rules page because I didn't know it existed at the time.

Register page clearly states:

"By continuing with the sign up process you agree to the above rules and any others that the Administrator specifies."

Bold mine.

Anyway, FWIW, stick around and you'll be able to post whatever wares you're selling. But you appreciate that we can't just have anyone joining, spamming amazon links to their books ( or whatever), and then fucking off. If you really care about what we think and what we have to say, then you'll want to stick around, lurk moar, and contribute yourself.

As it stands, nobody ain't gonna read no book you're advertising.

That's fine. I never complained about the link being removed. You guys can do whatever you want. I just didn't know, and didn't appreciate the snarky comments that came with people posting the rules that were previously unknown to me.

Derek, it's the internet. It's either porn or snarky comments, or both.

Sorry, I've been writing a book for the last two years. I forgot what forums were like, you're absolutely right.

Derek, you are on an atheist forum. We are a terse, crass, and caustic bunch. I think you'll find that anywhere. If you were here 2 years and posted something absurd (not saying what you posted was absurd), you would be called out on it just the same. If you don't think you can handle that, then maybe this isn't the place for you after all. Check out the introduction threads to see how welcoming we actually are, if you do it the right way. As it is your first couple of posts were telling us that you couldn't be arsed to look up the rules after they were pointed out to you. You made it seem like they weren't clear or weren't evident, when there is a link to them on literally every page you visit on this site. I don't think anyone called you a liar, we just pointed out that you were wrong. You then were defensive like we were being assholes.

We don't know you. We get a lot of trolls on this site, as you probably can imagine. So when someone's first post is to ask us to read a book on Amazon, you can imagine what that would be like to us, yeah? If someone walked up to a any group IRL and just asked them to read a book without any sort of introduction, what would your response be? If you contribute to this site, stick around a while, prove to us that you have valuable opinions, then the odds are that at least someone would check out your book. But, come on man, be reasonable.

ETA: You ninja'd me. I started this before you posted... Tongue
