WASHINGTON (AP) — The push by President Barack Obama and Senate Democrats to raise the federal minimum wage seems ready to join the parade of issues that gets buried in Congress but — the party hopes — propels voters to the polls this November.

And now, a bill by Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, boosting today's $7.25 hourly minimum in three steps until it hits $10.10 as soon as 2016. His minimum wage bill is widely expected to join that list Wednesday, when the Senate seems poised to vote on it. Though it should win backing from nearly all of the 53 Democrats and two Democratic-leaning independents, few if any Republicans are expected to join them, leaving them shy of the 60 votes needed.

If you know the toadies of the corporate criminals are going to block it anyway, why put forward a half-measure? "We'll give you a raise in 2016?" Fuck that. Just put forward a straightforward measure that raises the rate to $10.10....which is only marginally useful depending on where you live in this country...and let the fuckers vote against that.

I wish Obama was 20% of the "socialist" that the republicunts claim he is.

Although, that assumes that voters won't let corporations stomp on the little guy, but too many of them seem to be more focused on putting Jesus in the White House and stopping abortion.

Furthermore, wage and compensation growth in the first few years of this period was still being buoyed by the momentum of the strong wage and compensation growth of the late 1990s. Figure A shows year-by-year productivity growth along with compensation growth as measured by the ECI and the ECEC since 2000. It shows that there has been no sustained growth in average compensation since 2004. The stagnation began even earlier, in 2003, when considering wages alone. Since 2003, wages as measured by both the ECI and the ECEC (not shown) have not grown at all—a lost decade for wages.

Whatever the actual value of the work done at that level, arbitrarily setting a particular number of dollar and cents to it will rapidly inflate or deflate the actual value of the currency to that level.

If folks at the entry level wage can't make it they need to rethink career goals, their spending and education.

Sure, it's a constant struggle that you have to keep up with, and it will only increase inflation. But that is a better alternative than not paying people enough to survive on. I realize that will make the billionaire's wealth diminish, but somewhere around here is the world's smallest violin.
