That's badass!!
I like the practical applications that are available. The toilet idea might require a little more thought...

Yeah talk about splash back. Maybe some hydrophilic veins leading toward the underside where a hydrophobic layer would be waiting to splash it straight in. Call Shark Tank!
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:
"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."
For context, this is the previous verse:

Problem is that toilet design relies on gravity. Without the weight of water and therefore its inertia, a hydrophobic toilet with no water would require a major reboot.

Oh, I missed the toilet bit. When you mentioned it, I assumed it was meant for the seat's cleanliness. Seems silly to have a metal toilet seat now that I think about it.

I get what he means about saving water in a third world country. Just when all these poor people have to buy a new toilet...
ETA: Do you think they could etch ceramic to make it hydrphobic?

What was the idea then? No need for flushing? Maybe just for urinals, wouldn't be good for a home toilet. But maybe they could make the stink trap larger so it would collect enough to flush eventually, while also trapping the smell in the meantime. Though it doesn't really solve the inertia bit.

Yeah, by it's very hydrophobic nature it is antiseptic. So it would not need to be rinsed or cleansed of waste products. I could see it working for urinals, though. It would eliminate on that brown calcium/urea deposit on 20 year old urinals in gas stations/at the beach...

I recently re-watched An Idiot Abroad and found myself thinking those toilets in Asia where it's just a hole with a foot petal flusher are probably ideal. Especially in public places. All I would ask for is toilet paper and a door, but I'd be happy not to touch a single surface in public bathrooms. Doesn't seem as odd from that perspective. I would actually see their point if they came here and thought our toilets were weird- "You mean you touch the toilet!?" And I'd go "Good point."

It would take some getting used to. It would be quite an experience to just squat over a hole... Plus, the acrobatics required in order to wipe correctly...

APOD Wrote:Why would the surface of Titan light up with a blinding flash? The reason: a sunglint from liquid seas. Saturn's moon Titan has numerous smooth lakes of methane that, when the angle is right, reflect sunlight as if they were mirrors. Pictured here in false-color, the robotic Cassini spacecraft orbiting Saturn imaged the cloud-covered Titan last summer in different bands of cloud-piercing infrared light. This specular reflection was so bright it saturated one of Cassini's infrared cameras. Although the sunglint was annoying -- it was also useful. The reflecting regions confirm that northern Titan houses a wide and complex array of seas with a geometry that indicates periods of significant evaporation. During its numerous passes of our Solar System's most mysterious moon, Cassini has revealed Titan to be a world with active weather -- including times when it rains a liquefied version of natural gas.
