Welcome katie.

As soon as they saw me the oldest says " katie did you hear? He went to heaven!" These kids had absolutley no idea what happend, then I couldn't stop the tears. They talked about it so causally, they did not feel bad about the loss of their brother. He was gone, and thats when it hit me.

I'm sure I've said it before on this forum, but here goes...
It has always boggled my mind to think that, if heaven is all that great, why don't "abrahamic religions' followers" just kill themselves to get there as quickly as possible?
But I'm also sure this is not the place for such a debate, so I'll just leave it up.

Enjoy the forum! Smile

RE: Hi :)
Just watching Episode III, had to share Smile

Quote:Yoda: Careful you must be when sensing the future Anakin. The fear of loss is a path to the dark side.
Anakin Skywalker: I won't let these visions come true, Master Yoda.
Yoda: Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealousy. The shadow of greed that is.
Anakin Skywalker: What must I do, Master Yoda?
Yoda: Train yourself to let go... of everything you fear to lose.

I created a new thread to discuss if anyone want's to engage

Hello KP, welcome. I think it's not fair to ask a 5 and 6 year old to "understand" death in the way that we do. In fact, I'll share a story with you.

Olivia Lambert was a girl who got cancer very early in her life. Her parents spent hundreds of thousands of dollars of their own money to take her to see specialists all around the world, and also through fund-raising many Canberrans donated to assist as well. I've never met the family, however one of our parishioners at our church was involved with the family through pretty much the whole two-year or so battle (that's not important to the story though).

What is important is that a few weeks before she died, aged 8, the mother was on the radio saying that she's so very scared of loosing her little girl - as understandable she would be - but that Olivia isn't, even though she knows she's going to die. She said she was more worried about how her parents would cope than with dying. Kids just don't have the same attitude towards death as adults do - they know it's serious, but you can't expect them to handle it in an adult way, it just isn't how it happens.

I'm sorry for your loss, thanks for sharing your story, and I hope you too find the above story is useful in some way (you can read the rest of her story here).

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke

We're not allowed to discuss that here. But to whom?

False ideas are generally the bane of our existence.
If the hypothetical idea of an afterlife means more to you than the objectively true reality we all share, then you deserve no respect.
