Metal Gear Solid 2/etc

RE: Metal Gear Solid 2/etc
Yeah, I don't know if it was that good either, but if you are involved in the story line, it was pretty damned epic. I've played every game in this franchise, down to Metal Gear on Famicom, and while I still get confused by the ridiculous intricacy of the story all the way through, and some of the characters overlap and whatnot, but this franchise as a whole is so damned awesome. I love it.

Top 5 Moments:
5)MGS3 - The Ladder. What a fantastic moment---the longest ladder climb in any game I've ever played, but you don't mind because of the Snake Eater theme, so poignant.
4)MGS4 - Opening chapter, when Solid poses like a statue with his hand on the actual statue's penis.
3)Beating MGS1 with no kills, no deaths, no alert phases. Started the OCD windfall. I have to do this with every one of these games now.
2)Fission Mailed. Nuff said.
1) MGS1, at Shadow Moses, Psycho Mantis boss. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to beat him. He was telling me about how I like to play Madden and Gran Turismo, and I was like WHAT? I called up Mei Ling on the Codec, and she suggests that he can read your memory card. You have to switch to controller port 2 to beat him! Fantastic!

Kinda like some sort of a cop. And i have today beaten Mission mode, so now its Snake Tales again.
Favorite game as a 13 year old.

What is your favorite Metal Gear/Solid game

As far as story lines go in games metal gear solid to me seems the most complicated but best storyline in any game ever.

It's one of my top games EVER.

Metal gear solid 4 almost brought me to tears in the part where he goes back to shadow moses again and he has flashbacks to MGS1 and it made me have flashbacks of being in secondary school and playing MGS1 with my friends.

I've only ever played mgs1 and 4 though I had a break from video games inbetween when all the others were released. It's on my bucket list to complete all the games though.

Metal gear solid also has one of the best soundtracks to any game.

I think it also has some of the best character it's difficult to pick who my favorite is but probably either psychomantis or solid snake.

It also has the most action movie style corny quotes.
Quote:Snake.
"I don't need a handkerchief."
Otocon
"Why"
Snake
"I don't have anymore tears to shed"

Quote:Raiden
"It was never going to work out for me, it even rained the day I was born"
Snake
"You've got it all wrong, you were the lightening in that rain."

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

It's moments like this that I love. When I was playing MGS2 I got a call on the codec while using Raiden. The person (Colonel maybe?) tells me that I've been playing the game for too long. It's been over 2 hours now and I must be tired. You should switch off the console now he says. I was playing the game at about 02:00 and I got freaked out!!! I did as he said and searched the room I was playing in for a spy.

Yep, thats that real shit. Had me freaking out going "Oh shit, oh shit" when you see shadow moses brought to life in the 21st centuary. The music that plays when you first get there by the heliport. Wow, the nostalgia. They made the base 95% just like it was in MGS1. MGS4 is truly one for the fans.

I remember a sales person at a games shop telling a guy that he didn't have to have played the others. I was thinking "What the fuck?" You at least need to have played MGS1 because it pretty much hinges on it. Thats where you meet Liquid Snake for the first time. How else are you gonna make sense of the flash backs? How you supposed to make sense of the tension between Snake and Meryl? Remember when Snake says to Otacon "...and Meryl all grown up. She's a lot more sure of herself." There the players are supposed to contrast the new Meryl to the old green rookie. She ain't green no more!

The voice actors do such a fantastic job in MGS4. They pull off their characters' older voices so well. Go onto youtube and watch some vids of MGS1 and switch to MGS4. Bravo team!

I never run into people that love this franchise like I do. Everyone is always like "it's boring" or "it's too complicated." It's just because I've played nearly every iteration of the game, and I am amazed at how Hideo Kojima can keep true to the storyline while still developing it. I harken it to "A Song of Ice and Fire," the Game of Thrones series. The fact that GRRM and Kojima can keep the canon straight is amazing to me, and I can't wait to see what's next. And sneaking/espionage gameplay is fantastic! So much more tension when you have to sneak than just plowing your way through the game.

Funny story: I was one of those people that used to say it was boring. I still remember arguing with a friend of mine that the Splinter Cell series were better games. I deeply repent of my sinful ways. You see when I was a kid I didn't really care much for the storyline of even movies. Now that I'm older it's become everything. I even watch anime because the storylines are amazing. I watch these things to see if there's a pattern or formula to creativity. I haven't found one yet.

With MGS, the dense storyline is intimidating especially to casual players.

It's the keeping true of the storyline that's just mind boggling. When I found out that he didn't even intend on making MGS4, I flipped. It all ties in so perfectly.

I love the thrill of passing an area unnoticed. Makes you feel like you're an expert and that you can do it in real life. Or is that just? meThinking

Well I've seen a little bit of MGSV and I must say that I'm disappointed that Richard Doyle isn't doing the voice of Big Boss as he does in MGSIV. I know the role of Big Boss has a little confusion associated to it because in MGSIII David Hayter does the voice. He's also the voice of Solid Snake. I guess I was hoping that MGSIV was the straightening out of things. Then Kiefer Sutherland steps in I think. Could be a marketing thing trying to ride the success of the 24 series. I don't know.
