Rely on God

Rely on God
Well,I'm listening to the book my friend suggested(The Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer) and asked me to listen/ read because of my mental health issues. I'm really trying to keep an open mind and couple things are okay, like in the book where it says how our thoughts affect our behavior and way of living... but it's heavily Christian ,I feel like I'm listening to a sermon,"devil" this and biblical truth that constant scripture, it just rubs me wrong. I get the intent and appreciate that she wanted to help, but from what I've been hearing it's just not for me.

My friend said it changed her life and she thought it would change mine but honestly I could barely get through chapter 1:
"You can't fight with determination alone, you need to pray and ask God

Paraphrasing but 'dont be of the flesh, being in the flesh allows for trouble'

Choose Gods way of thinking, the Devil lies to you.
and lots of scriptures

If you're already struggling with your mental health this probably isn't a good book for you.

Why would you give up on something that could change your life, are you afraid that people will call you religious, stupid, delusional. If it changes your life does that make you or them stupid and delusional.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I recommend counseling from professionals.

I recommend reading a book about science fiction, documentary, or hobby. Enjoy reading!

I am currently reading a book in my career field and a hobby. This boosts my confidence at my job, and enhances my hobbies.

Scientology could change your life too GC. You'd learn how body thetans are responsible for so much distress in your life! Come and take our personality test! It's free! No obligation! Eventually, with enough effort (and $$$!!!), you will learn to teleport and move objects with your mind. Talk about life-changing! Imagine being able to have lunch in Paris whenever you want! You just have to sign this here billion year contract...

Don't be afraid that people might call you stupid and delusional for believing in Scientology! What do they know anyway? Nothing!

Oh wait, you think your pet bullshit religion and its unsubstantiated claims is different than some other bullshit religion and its unsubstantiated claims. Gotcha.

Because, even after reading only the first chapter, the OP can see where this book is heading - into mythical crap that won't help with any form of mental health issues.

If you startg reading a book and don't like it do you keep reading the entire thing?

You can consider G-C the "bad example" when you answer that question.

RE: Rely on God
I've had lots of people try to peddle god to me because of my mental health, and honestly, if someone had told me to read a Joyce Meyers book, I would have laughed in their face. For future reference, don't take self-help advice from people that drive Rolls Royces.

Something that helped me was The Miracle of Mindfulness. I think Buddhists have a great approach to dealing with the mind.
