RE: Chard
Welcome from the UK! I think you'll find there's plenty in here to keep you amused.

Are you a pagan-type Gaian or a philosophical gaian?

RE: Chard
Philosophical for sure Ben, though my knowledge is minimal there. I've only grown this belief out of a respect and admiration for nature, I'm a bit of an animal approacher and see our interconnected-ness. The main operating functions of birds go from nervousness to flirtatiousness to jealousy to fun-seeking from what I've gathered. I've got a video of me flirting with robins in my own yard. The shot is pretty shaky so if you want to skip ahead you'd probably want to watch 6:35 on.

Me too. A watchword of mine is that 'all things are part of a bigger system; if you don't consider the whole then you won't understand the part'.

Curious vid. Did your flirting work? Also, not trying to sound derisive but is it me or does that call sound like a remix of the A-Team theme tune?

RE: Chard
Yes. The first step was to sync up my head body language with the bird's head body language (they have very active necks). Then I hung out at the edge of the bird's flight radius until I saw her get comfortable. After that, I tensed toward the bird then turn, ran, and ducked in a non-threatening position. It was like a shot of adrenaline straight to the brain that gave the bird a quick high. After that things were gravy and it's just a matter of getting the technique out there now.

And what you're doing is far from derisive; I actually call it meme derivation analysis. If genes started with a single individual, then so can memes I say. Could be as simple as a common ancestor of chimps and humans picking out a four leaf clover. The A-Team-esque tune hitting my head that moment may be because I would play with toys when I was younger while my dad watched army shows on TV. I constantly repeated the tune to give myself a unique identifier.
I'll bray for you. Like a goat.

Welcome , Chard.

You'll like it here.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

You shall do ^_^

:Welcome:

Don't eat the biscuits (cookies).
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.
