Oh man. I'm rewatching Popeye starring Robin Williams. I've seen it like 20 times by now. I love it so much. http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/60028294?trkid=7307368

How can anyone not love this film? I'm reading all the bad reviews of it and the only conclusion I can come to is that such people have some terrible mental disease and should probably seek professional help.
My ignore list

I haven't seen it since it first came out. My recollection is that it's a terrible film. However, a lot of the acting in it is nuts on - particularly Popeye and Olive Oyl. I grew up watching old black and white Popeye cartoons, and Williams totally captured the essence of the character. I don't recall what it was that was so bad - perhaps just a shitty script.

Me, right now I'm watching Chopped on Food Network.

I love the music in it. It's really the only musical I absolutely love. The music is just so goddamn funny.

You know, we all love what we love. "Army of Darkness" is a terrible, shitty film, but I love it.

I think you're confusing being shitty by accident and being "shitty" on purpose. Completely different things.

In the end, does it matter? We still love what we love.

No. I just find it really strange and shocking. To me it is on par with Airplane!, Blazing Saddles, The Naked Gun and the like. Until tonight, I just always assumed Popeye had the same reputation until I looked up reviews. Even after reading the reviews, I still can't comprehend what they're complaining about.

I'm going to have to rewatch it, I think. I think I was a teenager when it came out. Who knows what makes a film a cult classic? I vaguely remembering one of my friends laughing riotously while we watched it - but he was on something like four hits of acid, so that *just might* have had something to do with it.
